Pros

It was a company with a family feel but since Belk was bought out by sycamore partners that went away. When you are salaried you are run thin. Not enough managers or associates but the workload is still there

Cons

The change in the culture since the buy out. Now you are just a number not a vested employee. Thank you next

Identity Crisis

Pros

Connectivity and visibility to top executives. Extra works days during the month of December are paid back through comp time off. Base salaries are comparable to industry standard, except for the lack of bonuses below the store manager level.

Cons

Company has been going through an identity crisis and hasn't been able to figure out who it is. Constant changes to standards, expectations and directives because of this lack of direction. HR practices are highly unethical. Promotions and transfers within the company require the approval of your supervisor and they have to reach out to the hiring manager on your behalf before you can apply for them (this should be a major red flag at any company). This promotes a nepotism and favoritism in a massive way. Most promotions are selected before the interview process begins. Therefore, you don't really have a choice on where you want to go in the company. They will tell you, and that usually means relocation. Health benefits are sub-par. Inventory levels are way too high, which is either an issue in the buying office or an attempt by Sycamore Partners (the parent company) to make their manufacturing arm look good (most products are manufactured by companies under the same umbrella). Lastly, comp sales have been down year over year for the last several years. Not sure how much longer this company can last.

Pros

You get to meet new people everyday

Cons

Upper management doesn't like you being so independent and will do whatever to push you out of the company if they feel like you can do a better job than them. They call you in on your days off because of callouts and no matter how much time you dedicate to the company you still are unappreciated.
