Pros

Most corporate managers are easy-going and it's really easy to get time off. Flex Fridays during the summer are a huge benefit. Discount is pretty good, double discounts are even better.

Cons

Some managers and upper management are harsh and love to micro-manage. You don't always interview with them so you don't know what you're getting until you have worked a while. You won't get fair pay unless you know someone OR you know how to negotiate really well. They really like to get people in the door for crappy pay and promise a raise, which you definitely won't get. 1% yearly raises are all you'll get, if that. Be prepared to stay in the same spot for a while. IT department is a cluster, most techs have no clue what they're doing. On-boarding and getting proper equipment takes literally months, sometimes years. If you want to be rewarded for good work, be prepared to be very loud and complain. Otherwise you'll get no recognition.

Pros

Health insurance The beautiful people that I worked with, I especially felt so bad for the new people that came in. Sweet and walking into a sham of a store. Discount, but that is nothing so special. Everyone has a discount,

Cons

This company is by far the most outdated, backward dept store I have ever had the misfortune of having worked for. The IT they have in place is laughable. The client 'system' is an absolute joke amongst coworkers. I won't bore you with details. Don't even bother to apply here as a full time person and expect to work 38-40 hrs. You will get 30 hours. That is what they consider full time. However. You must attain the goal set forthwith on your full time status of 30 hours. But hey, you are full time, what's the problem. The customers are an absolute nightmare. I think it's because BELK is a low end dept. store, therefore attracts that sort of clientele. Some of these customers are chronic returners, buying online or in another store and returning to this store. Unidentifiable returns folks! Stolen merchandise. Returned. Showboaters, those that buy up product/merch (but can't actually afford it) and sculk over to a different store to return everything. Stupid. I asked someone if they ever actually bought anything from our store, as all I did was take returns from this woman. Probably had a mental problem, poor thing. The schedule is so poorly put together, you migh be lucky and get two weeks advance notice, but usually it's one. If you want more hours, you actually have to earn those. Beg for hours???Oh puleeeeze. Belk, get a life. You aren't all that. In fact you aren't any of that. Do something about that hideous 3 shade of blue signage, looks like Kmart/Walmart set up shop. Low end store attracting low end people, who can't really afford to shop and buy and return, buy and return. It's a JOKE.
