Makeup has never been the same for me after working for this company
Pros
Free product and there was a great coffee shop next door.
Cons
I want to start off by saying I was extremely excited to start working at Benefit Cosmetics with the hopes of climbing the corporate ladder because I was so passionate about makeup and I stood behind the brand. But, in all honesty, Benefit made me absolutely hate makeup. I want to start off with my managers. My managers were unprofessional, stuck up and they truly only cared about hitting the stores quota. During my interview, the manager and assistant manager talked badly about an employee who currently worked there (first red flag) and I brushed it off because I was excited to interview with them and it didn't register what was happening. Another memory was when I was berated and screamed at in front of the entire store because a client was told she had to be put on a 10-minute wait list because she was a walk-in on a very busy, Summer Saturday (she was NOT turned away). While my manager decided to kiss her feet and completely ignore me, I cried in the office and was told to get back on the floor. When I had enough and went to put my two weeks in, my newer manager (who was also on his way out, which I realized contributed to his reaction) tried everything he could to talk me out of it (I was going back to school) and even had the audacity to compare myself to him and how I “needed to be more like him when he was in college.” Now, let’s move on to the co-workers. My co-workers did not take to newcomers and would become extremely catty and hostile. On numerous occasions I had to deal with the wrath and pettiness some displayed if I had higher sales, it was ridiculous I also experienced racism amongst my coworkers, which was completely tolerated and ignored by the managers. Other than my experience with my managers and coworkers, Benefit is a California brand but one of the MOST WASTEFUL companies I have ever worked for. Not only do they not care about the environment, they actually encourage unnecessary waste. There is absolutely no need to get a gigantic box for a single piece of paper for a display when we could have just printed it out in store? Please, save yourself. If you love makeup, this is not the company for you. I wish I knew ahead of time how things would be because I never would have put myself through this. This company is toxic, going downhill and will most likely be completely irrelevant in the beauty world in a few years. Good riddance.
