Pros

There are some very good and very talented people there; I enjoyed getting to know and working with many of them. The company has great potential and is positioned for future growth in the marketplace.

Cons

The work environment and corporate culture need some serious work; it reminded me of middle school. The politics and the rumor mill are rampant and rule the land. Truth and fiction do not matter; right and wrong do not matter. The only thing that matters is who says what and how many times they say it; say it enough times and it becomes "reality". That is not a good way to run a company. The employees that are not part of the political "in crowd" are treated like insignificant cogs, to be used and discarded when they are worn out. Management does not get to know their employees, they do not know how to recognize talent, how to grow that talent or how to put it use. The hours are long and the pay/benefits are solidly mediocre.

Pros

Unfortunately, I had to leave Benefitfocus because my wife relocated to a different city for her career. The company was more than willing to work with me while I was transitioning out of my position and offered me the chance to work remotely until I got settled. My manager and team were always very helpful and I felt valued and respected for my individual contributions. I also made many friends while working at Benefitfocus.

Cons

This company is probably a little fast-paced for someone who hasn’t worked in the technology field before or for a very long time.

Pros

- free food several days a week - Good people for the most part - it's nice to work with people you can learn from. - on top of new technologies in certain areas of the company

Cons

- long hours and almost no personal life - low pay in comparison to other software engineering jobs in the area - In most product areas, there is such a high demand for bug fixes and "emergency" patches that it has become a "burn and churn" type of environment. - If you are not part of the top clique of friends, you might as well settle into mediocrity and get some experience, then move on.
