Pros

There are no pros. Pay isn't even that great.

Cons

Nothing but glorified sales jobs. You sell advertising. Terrible training. People are cold and fake to work with.

Pros

I was only with Best Version Media for a short time. I traveled to the west end of the city for a day-long (or possibly two days I can't remember) orientation and sales training. (In an aside: One thing I'll say about that is i remember they didn't serve any food and I was starving the whole time.) The trainers and senior execs were very nice, very motivated and very supportive which I enjoyed. Ultimately though I don't want to be a sales person - even though I'm very friendly and love meeting people. When I did attempt to make sales for the potential magazine, clients were initially interested but seemed turned off when they learned about the cost and parameters. Again, I only did this for a short time before taking on a full-time role with another organization.

Cons

See above. If you love doing sales and/or have experience in that field, it could be of interest.

Pros

Some of the people who I worked with were nice and professional.

Cons

When it comes to the cons, there are many of them. First of all, someone looking at this organization to build a career should avoid it at all costs. A job description posted on a job board should not be believed. I went in thinking the role would be marketing and content focused (hence why I applied to be a content specialist), but when I was brought onboard, I quickly learned it was more of a customer service and quality assurance role where I would review articles written by other people and then have to make phone calls to publishers around the U.S. and Canada letting them know why content had to be removed. Furthermore, these publishers were often times rude and abusive to internal employees (they were more like franchisees). The internal management would not support the lower-level employees either because the publishers are these little magazines made them money. This was always discussed internally where my direct co-workers, who had more years within the organization, would let me know what publishers were okay versus ones that would yell and degrade people. It was unnecessary drama and created a toxic environment. Secondly, management was non-existent. My direct supervisor was only on-site (everyone else had to work in the office) I believe 3 or 4 times in the span of an entire quarter. No leadership. In times I wanted to work from home, I was told I couldn't. It was a double standard. Thirdly, when it came to Glassdoor and Google Reviews, I was specifically directed by management, who were directed by the executive team, to go out and post fake, 5-star reviews to inflate the review scores. It's dishonest to how the organization actually functions.

We’ve proudly been recognized as a Great Place to Work every year since 2015. Our Content Specialists assist with all facets of the department, which includes reviewing our monthly magazines, but they also write articles, help with trainings and webinars, and work closely with our Content Team to ensure project deadlines are met. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with various departments. While we’re disappointed to hear about this individual’s experience, we're also excited for our continued success with the awesome team we have in place.
