Pros
- All scheduling is very flexible. You work in 4-6 hour shifts and can schedule more if someone's out at another center. Can change your schedule if school needs it. - Kids can be joy to work with - If you're passionate about Math or English, nice to teach what you like. Note: These are some very good pros, just to balance the upcoming cons
Cons
- Uncompetitive pay. Minimal raises and although Seattle raised their minimum wage all the non-Seattle locations aren't doing the same. - Barely anyone is full-time. The company does not take care of its own and even center managers need to get second jobs. If finances were secure people wouldn't quit all the time. - Seemingly high turnover. People may have new class schedules so a position may go empty for months. - Teaching 5 to 8 kids at a time can get rough, especially since everyone's working on something different. Centers seem to promote speed over quality most of the time. - Coworker support can be hit or miss. Some Teacher's Assistants will help without asking and some will be too busy on their phones. - Lack of transparency for parents. They are not allowed to talk to the instructors and must go through the manager. Most of the time the manager will know nothing. Parents are not allowed to watxh class either. They deserve to know how their children are doing. - Students may be getting only 9 minutes of your time on average. They're not getting their money's worth oftentimes All in all, the business model is incredibly profit-driven and takes advantage of college kids willing to work for cheap. If they wanted to make sure kids were getting enough attention they'd hire at least another instructor or assistant manager for the busiest times.
