Pros

Interesting engineering Good perks; if you use them

Cons

Beta is a great place to hang out, but it's becoming less of a good place to work. The number of employees has multiplied and the structure of the organization has not kept pace. Some people are slammed, others have nothing to do. Some engineering team leads are just the loudest person in the room, not the most thoughtful. Overall, I think the lack of structure is severely hurting the business. Also, there are some perks (flying for example), that I personally would prefer to see disappear in favor of higher engineering salaries. The culture at Beta is very conformist, somewhat cult-like; it would great to see more intellectual diversity.

Pros

-Depending on your role you can have a lot of autonomy -Mostly transparent on business strategy. CEO occasionally pipes in during weekly standup to realign teams on objectives and outlooks. -Free lunch? It was fantastic when the company was smaller. It is pretty meh now that the company has 600+ employees. The kitchen just didn't scale with the company. -Free flight lessons. Though the more people join the company the harder it is to use this benefit. -Opportunity to work with a lot of smart people. -Hybrid schedule. Which is great because the office is open concept and tremendously distracting. Of course, everyone wears headphones. -This company is probably a winner long term. Great backing, thought leadership in core roles, and partnerships. -The founder hosts an annual party at his mansion.

Cons

-Company is going through growing pains. The CEO is trying to keep a startup culture, and maybe from the top it looks to be working, but it's no longer the case at the lower half of the totem poles. -YMMV depending on which team you work on. -Very little career advancement and no mentoring/guidance. Wherever you join, that's where you'll likely stay. Now that the company has grown, people are very territorial and frankly too busy for you. -Flat management doesn't mean there isn't a hierarchy. Flat management just obscures lines of influence. You will have a managers, they just have an out not to have to be effective and inspiring leaders because employees are supposed to manage themselves. The not-managers still get manager pay though. -Culture pushing on borderline cult. We hire for specific character types and interests, but this just leads to mono-thinking.

Pros

Great benefits and decent pay for the region.

Cons

The company operates like a cult and thrives on chaos. Employees are in tears daily as a result of the incessant bullying.
