Pros

- Unlimited PTO - Amazing Director of OT and SPOT Team - Good pay - Wonderful families and the cutest kids

Cons

- Micromanagement - Poor staff retention - Pressure to make-up sessions if taking time off - Decisions related to SLP services being made by ABA leadership with no input from SLPs - Difficulty understanding the differences (billing, scope, caseloads etc.) between SLP and ABA at the supervisor level - Poor CEU reimbursement (pending caseload/productivity) - Elimination of SPOT rooms in some if not all centers - From a personal standpoint, I was let go on the same day I gave my 30-day notice after being told essentially that my position was being drastically changed (basically eliminated) from what I had initially been recruited for. I had participated in caregiver webinars, career fairs, hired a PHENOMENAL team of SLPs, presented on a podcast related to ABA/SLP collaboration, even got to the point where I had applied to a program to achieve my dual-certification in ABA, and I was let go at the drop of a hat.

Pros

Comprehensive training and mentorship. It’s great to have supervisors on site in case of questions that may come up during sessions.

Cons

The micromanagement of behavior techs (and BCBAs too) is extreme. We are forced to complete a trial count for each session so they can track what you’re doing. Staff are verbally reprimanded for “being negative”. Staff are not kept in the loop with organizational changes. Staff are not trusted. BCBAs are forced to create programs in what seems like one size fits all approach for all clients. Reinforcement for behavior techs consists of occasional donuts and meaningless stickers. As an ABA organization, management should understand that this is not effective reinforcement as staff keep leaving.

Pros

The staff really cares about their employees!! They are very flexible and reasonable when it comes to leaving for doctor appointments, etc. If there's a performance issue with an employee, they work hard to give that employee extra support and training to help them improve. They do a lot of nice things for the staff like randomly providing everyone with a pizza lunch, or handing out nice notes to each person, just to show their appreciation for their hard work. The company is constantly assessing their methods (both for therapy and for staff training) in order to continuously improve the quality of the kids' ABA therapy. They almost always promote from within at Bierman, which gives employees lots of room to grow!

Cons

Although they generally promote from within, their mistake is giving employees multiple roles at one time. It's not feasible for someone to do two full-time jobs when they're only given time for one. Since role changes produce ripple effects, this causes significant stress throughout the organization. They should wait to promote people until they have sufficient staff to fill each role with one person.
