Great Opportunities

Pros

Company experiencing growth again which provides opportunities for movement within the organization. Opportunities for job enrichment training and cross-training. Money is being spent on infrastructure and hiring again after years of neglect.

Cons

Compensation not keeping pace with Competitors. Upper management opportunities appear to be limited to outsiders with big business experience requiring more $$. It's a big Company with large differences in culture depending on site and Department but things are improving.

Declining Benefits, Noncompetitive Pay

Pros

There is a small, but well stocked gym in the building. Ample free parking. The company is aware of a lot of its work culture issues and is at least trying to improve. Some of the cons might be getting better over time. Quality of individual employees is overall pretty good.

Cons

Benefits have gotten worse. Our health insurance has been reworked twice in 2 years - and not for the better. Our PTO system is also pretty ungenerous. And they stopped the holiday bonus. Very high turnover. Pay is not competitive - and the system for administering raises has little to do with individual merit. The best people either leave or have to threaten to leave to get better compensation. Work culture, access to resources, opportunities for promotion/growth vary a lot from department to department and manager to manager. A manager who is willing to go to bat for their team and who can navigate the endless red tape and procedures can do a lot for their department. If you are interviewing here, look for signs of an engaged manger. Upper management is pretty out of touch with the actual work flow in the labs. I've never seen my manager's boss actually visit the labs. Unfortunately this is the person who needs to sign off on any major changes or promotions.
