When our employees take on additional responsibilities, like dog walking or bathing, they are compensated at the appropriate rate for the role. As outlined on our recruiting website, we do not require prior experience working with dogs for the Dog Handler role, but require that you genuinely love dogs, be comfortable with all breeds and sizes of dogs, be capable of consistently following all handling and safety protocols, possess a great deal of focus and attention to detail and be physically fit to lift dogs 50+ lbs., kneel and stand for long periods of time. The Dog Handler role is an entry level role and individuals in this role are expected to move into one of our more skilled roles after 3 months of good performance. Individuals in the Dog Handler role are not meant to be in this role long term. As we do not require prior experience working with dogs, we provide training which includes among other things, how to identify different types of dog behaviors so you understand what can lead to a fight. We also make sure with all roles, that candidates understand that dog bites are to be expected. Regardless of your dog care role – Vet, Groomer, Dog Trainer, Dog Handler, etc. – you will be bitten by a dog at some point. Give me a call when you get a chance on 212-401-3024. - Allison
