Pros

None at the moment since Mario is CEO

Cons

New CEO lied to thousands of people. Mandatory return to office. Ridiculous and strict rules regarding this. Many people relocated, sold cars, changed their entire lives due to the fact that we were remote workers and told we would continue being remote. New CEO blatantly lied to everyone. I used to be proud to work for such a great company. New CEO is ruining everything. I will not be staying here much longer. Terrible place to currently work. Stay away for as long as Mario is CEO. Mario failed to prioritize honesty and transparency and has created a TOXIC work environment, he eroded employee trust, and damaged the company's reputation. It is not only UNETHICAL but also is negatively affecting productivity and morale, which is ultimately leading to HIGH employee turnover rates. Such behavior is unacceptable and not reflective of good leadership. A CEO's role is to inspire, motivate, and guide their employees towards success, not to deceive them. He should be held accountable for his actions

Pros

My team is great. The projects we work on are interesting. Medical benefits are similar to other companies. Pay is good and sick days are unlimited for salaried employees.

Cons

PTO is capped at 4 weeks and accumulated over time and you can only roll over 1 week at the end of the year. While other more progressive companies are moving to unlimited PTO, they're clinging to this old-style time off benefit. The big punch in the gut, though, is the complete reversal of the permanently remote position I applied for and accepted to the demand that everyone go to the office 3 days a week. I left a "forever remote" position for this one because I wanted to stay remote. I was told how progressive Black & Veatch was in its "Working in New Ways" policy and it was the main reason I applied for the job. This is a bait and switch in the worst way possible because it affects my life and the balance remote work offered by not having to commute, buy expensive work clothes/shoes/accessories, avoiding getting sick every time someone came in with the latest daycare bug, and the general mental well-being not being around an office full of noise and people. The CEO and higher ups keep attempting to gaslight everyone by saying we wanted to return to the office and that various surveys say so. I have yet to see any of this data. This isn't the company I thought it was and from what it sounds like, the new CEO is undoing a great culture that everyone boasted about and were very proud of when I came on board. Now everyone seems beaten down, depressed and realizing that no one is listening to what they have to say. People are already leaving and I fear we're watching a lot of talent walk out the door. DE&I seems to be something they try to tout, but they don't really walk the walk. There's definitely a 'good ol' boys' club feeling.

Thank you for writing a review and sharing your thoughts with us; our employee-owners are essential to our success and we appreciate you taking the time to do so. We're happy to hear that you enjoy working with your team and like the projects, as well as the compensation and benefits! While we are confident the ultimate result will be positive, we also know that initial adjustments take time to get used to and change is not easy. We're sorry that you feel that you were hired under a bait and switch. You were hired at a time when our policy was remote work--at that time, we absolutely did not foresee any changes to that; that is very much true. We know the transition to a hybrid model will be a shift and will take time to get it right. We do believe that long term, this will provide a balance of in-office time to build relationships with team members and those outside our working teams, while still providing the flexibility to work where and how we want. Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

Pros

Working from home was great until it got taken away. At one point, things were great. Prior to 12/1/2022, I could've said I was very happy. Please review company feedback since December 1st. A large number of people here are unhappy. CEO/Senior management decisions have left me with little hope that I will be sticking around for the long term.

Cons

We were doing great with a large number of people working from home. We've been home since COVID hit in early 2022. We supposedly had one of the best years on record in 2022. Without warning, the CEO emailed the company saying we were transitioning to a "hybrid" model where everyone is in the office 3 days a week. The company stated this was to allow greater in person collaboration. However, we have yet to see any data that suggests this was needed. In addition, we keep getting messages telling us how "flexible" the new hybrid model will be. I'm not sure what measuring stick management is using to determine their definition of flexible. If 60% of the work days are mandated in the office, that's a heckuva lot less flexible than 100% WFH. In addition, the CEO told the company when he was brought into the position in May that WFH was "here to stay". Now, he's changed his mind. We've hired a great number of people that only joined the company because they were allowed WFH. They are now out of luck. The company doesn't care. It seems that senior management is willing to lose them. I've already had one member of my team leave. More will follow. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone out there looking for a job. The future is uncertain and there is a lack of trust in the CEO/Senior Management to do the right things. It's very sad that a good company like this could be taken down so quickly by a bad leader.

Thank you for sharing your personal thoughts with us. We're happy to hear you did enjoy working at B&V and are sorry to hear that our new hybrid work environment has cause you to change your mind. As you said, there's little hope that you'll be sticking around for the long term, so you may or may not still be here. We hope that you've decided to work through these new changes with us and you're still here, but if not, we thank you for your feedback and wish you the best!
