Decent work/life balance, but no trust in upper management after RTO and location tracking

9/80 schedule, little to no overtime, flexibility, decent vacation/sick time, salary is fair for the local market.

Cons

Employee morale is very low. RTO to hybrid was mishandled, lots of people were hired for only virtual positions and have lost trust in management on the return to office and the attitude from upper management. Now everyone will have a bluetooth tracker “for safety” to track location in the building, as well as entry and exit times for compliance with the hybrid policy. We are treated like children or prisoners, not professionals. Lots of work is sent overseas when we have US engineers barely maintaining a full workload. Health insurance is expensive, has no copays (only coinsurance after deductible is met) and very high deductibles. I’ve never spent more on healthcare in my life. Management “reorganization” has been in effect for years now and many people still are unsure how departments and teams are structured. This was also to help with lateral movement within groups but there’s not much evidence of that actually happening.

Black & Veatch thought it was important to provide its professionals with flexibility while also allowing for in-person office collaboration. Navigating this new working model has brought challenges and opportunities. The access control system enhancements are crucial to the safety of our professionals and ensure that first responders have critical safety information during an emergency. The safety and health of employees, clients, and contractors is a Black & Veatch core value, and we have been working on these upgrades as part of our technology roadmap for several years. Things continue to get worse at Black & Veatch. CEO has finished his task of firing the remaining leaders who were in place when he took over. Moral continues to drop.

Cons

CEO does not value his long term employees.

2nd Review since Return to Office (RTO) was announced. Good place for a job, bad place for a career

Pros

Working in New Ways (WINW) during COVID, 9-80 schedule, unlimited sick time for engineers

Cons

Ended up leaving the company due to RTO policy and a poor supervisor. Supervisor has been above me for 6 years and unable to promote anyone underneath him, while securing two promotions himself. Held my career hostage, and now my former team's careers, while not consulting us on our desired career paths. Was told I was too valuable to promote . Saw no growth or development over 6 years. Bad leads and supervisors tend to get promoted based on who they know not their capabilities.
