Favoritism runs rampant, with no pay

Pros

Easy going sales and marketing jobs. Good schedule if you don't need the money. Outings and retreats for some employees.

Cons

The favoritism here is disgusting. The mid and top level managers are like a high school clique. They talk about culture and building great people, but only care about their friends and children. The company will pay some tens of thousands of dollars in bonus checks, yet the equivalent of $10/hr. to others for the same amount of work. The dynamic in the company very hypocritical. Top level management will just make you feel stupid, and try to manipulate you. They think everyone below them is just naive and will use them to gain more money for themselves. The people that stay have bought into the lies, and will be used until they leave.

It’s never fun to hear that someone who’s left our team feels this way – and as a guy who never was in the “cool clique” in high school, I certainly know what it’s like to feel left out. That being said, to address a few of the concerns raised for those who are considering joining our organization: 1. We, like many companies, have varying compensation packages for team members – more so focused on market rates that frequently tie to experience, responsibilities and role and less so on “quantity performed.” 2. While Block Imaging is a second generation family enterprise, our aim is to provide both opportunities and care for each team member, whether a part of our team for months, years or decades. 3. Gosh – in reference to stupid, hypocritical and manipulating leadership; our intent and desire as senior leaders is to equip and inspire. Our goal is that each team member would not just work but truly thrive here. As I’ve shared in response to other postings, we are most certainly an imperfect organization, despite our lofty ambitions and a core mission that seeks to proclaim that “people matter” in word and deed. We recognize that such a vision raises the bar and opens the door for criticism and yet we carry on in our pursuit. Lastly – I’m sorry to hear of your experience. We will continue to grow in the way we serve, support, equip and challenge this team to become all they were created for. Respectfully, Josh Block President

Rose-Colored Glasses...

Pros

privately owned company; very family friendly; casual work environment; fun & creative culture; good work/life balance; genuine desire to foster community & value employees

Cons

narrow & subjective perspective on who best "fits" with the company culture; poor pay and benefits across the organization (theoretically justified by the intangibles of wholesome culture, etc.); leadership team plays favorites and often-times undermines the leadership of mid-management; for every employee that feels "valued" and never wants to leave the Block Imaging utopia, there are two employees on the fringe whose performance is suffering because they have been sidelined by the somewhat strange cultural dynamics; particularly challenging environment for professional women to grow in their chosen career path.

Thanks for sharing about your experience and providing meaningful feedback to ways we can get better as a company. While an optimist at heart, we are no doubt imperfect. We hear and appreciate your advice and will use it to continue growing in the way we equip our team and serve our customers. Thanks for your service and all the best in your future endeavors! Positive Culture with Poor Pay

Pros

They seem to truly care about the personal development of their employees and do a great job of fostering excitement around the company. It's a growing company, so there's a lot of change that occurs and it can be very exhilarating to be a part of it. The company is also very open about their financial status, having meetings that walk through the profits and goals. They are definitely an industry leader in 3rd party medical imaging.

Cons

Outside of sales and some upper management, you won't be paid well within the industry. They have a habit of under-titling employees for their actual responsibilities and as a result they pay poorly. The fact that employees know how profitable the company is makes the poor pay hard to swallow. When I left, I was surprised at how many job offers I received - when I took my new job, I asked why they had offered me the position even though my highest title was **********, and was told nobody else had my level of experience with the "surprisingly" low pay I had been receiving - I was cheap compared to others. This sentiment is echoed on here, and it was also echoed throughout the low levels of the company while I was there.

Appreciative of the kind words about our passion for developing our team, transparency and for the recognition of our industry leadership. Regarding the title/compensation remarks, over the last 5 years, we’ve worked aggressively to not only align with the market, but offer a generous comprehensive benefits package. While “market wage” is a conceptual target, the reality is that “pay range” for roles is often broad and a mix of art and science. Just like in the equipment trade business we are a part of, we do not create but rather participate in markets. We appreciate your service over the past 3 years and also your candid feedback. It’s helpful as we seek to make Block Imaging a wonderful place to work and thrive. Respectfully, Josh Block
