Positive Culture with Poor Pay

Pros

They seem to truly care about the personal development of their employees and do a great job of fostering excitement around the company. It's a growing company, so there's a lot of change that occurs and it can be very exhilarating to be a part of it. The company is also very open about their financial status, having meetings that walk through the profits and goals. They are definitely an industry leader in 3rd party medical imaging.

Cons

Outside of sales and some upper management, you won't be paid well within the industry. They have a habit of under-titling employees for their actual responsibilities and as a result they pay poorly. The fact that employees know how profitable the company is makes the poor pay hard to swallow. When I left, I was surprised at how many job offers I received - when I took my new job, I asked why they had offered me the position even though my highest title was **********, and was told nobody else had my level of experience with the "surprisingly" low pay I had been receiving - I was cheap compared to others. This sentiment is echoed on here, and it was also echoed throughout the low levels of the company while I was there.

Appreciative of the kind words about our passion for developing our team, transparency and for the recognition of our industry leadership. Regarding the title/compensation remarks, over the last 5 years, we’ve worked aggressively to not only align with the market, but offer a generous comprehensive benefits package. While “market wage” is a conceptual target, the reality is that “pay range” for roles is often broad and a mix of art and science. Just like in the equipment trade business we are a part of, we do not create but rather participate in markets. We appreciate your service over the past 3 years and also your candid feedback. It’s helpful as we seek to make Block Imaging a wonderful place to work and thrive. Respectfully, Josh Block

Pros

Business with a purpose. Have their hearts in the right place. Strive to help their community. Excellent in their industry. They set the standard.

Cons

Management plays favorites and "takes care of their own". Willing to cut comission checks to sales reps for tens of thousands of dollars but will only pay their sales assistants a salary equivalent of $10 an hour. Huge inequality in pay, especially considering their performance standards, required specialized knowledge and direct contact with clients that create the good standing reputation they have in the business and medical world. Techs only make 40k range even with a college degree and military experience and no room to move up. Play favorites with their kids, giving them well to high paying jobs and titles, but giving other employees less opportunity and pay even if they have more experience than their children. For a company doing so well you would think they would compensate better and fairly. Women also have less opportunity and pay. Sorry, it's true. Walmart and TJ Maxx are about to standardize $15 an hour for cashiers. The fact Block isn't willing to pay more than that for some employees is sad. Interns at competing companies and in other industries get higher pay $15 an hour.

Thank you for the kind words about our purpose, heart and pursuit of excellence. While we do aim to set the standard and live by our mission that “People Matter”, it’s clear your experience wasn’t all that we desire it to be. Block Imaging is passionate about treating others as we’d like to be treated and that applies to the compensation and benefits arena as well. Over the last 5 years, transitioning from a start-up business to a company with a large(r) team with differing gifts and roles, we’ve worked hard to increase baseline compensation and also extend opportunities for team members to grow responsibilities and thereby income as well. In the coming 5 years, we fully expect to be industry and community leaders in the way we support our team, from dollars to development. Thank you again for your feedback as we do listen in an effort to make Block Imaging a better place. Respectfully, Josh Block
