Pros

Supporting families in need after a cancer diagnosis.

Cons

Poor management and training. Each campaign manager is required to handle ALL aspects of their own campaign, leading to quick burn-out and lots of things falling through the cracks. Very sales-oriented. Moving up in the organization purely comes from total dollar amount raised (if you are assigned to a poor-performing campaign, your results may not reflect the work put into the project).

Not for everyone

Pros

The cause is important, and the people generally mean well. Some people seem to do well here, and to enjoy the work and environment. Staff generally seem to work strictly 9-5, which is pretty uncommon.

Cons

To be fair, this was a few years ago, but my experience was not very positive: - Diversity is extremely low, and company culture is not inclusive - Departments are highly siloed, and some are more valued than others - Frequently hire temporary employees, who receive low pay, are not treated as equals, and are provided few opportunities for growth/entry into the company. - Management is unaware and inconsiderate of issues that staff are experiencing - Every job is essentially fundraising - there is little project management, creativity, or other skills involved, as heavy guidance comes from the national office and everything is outlined for you

Strong mission, run like a business

Pros

Resources; field staff; branding; volunteers; runs like a business; strong eye on bottom line

Cons

Like many national non profits there's a strong disconnect between the field and the national office. Decisions are made as directives to chapters vs. a collaborative effort. There's obvious dysfunction at the ELT level, including bullying, which has been reported to HR a number of times but clearly ignored for way too long.
