Pros

Gratis is okay and depending on locations store managers are great

Cons

District managers and regional managers are a joke and they are bullies. District manager can’t even keep up with her job but micro manages GOOD MANAGERS to the point they quit because of all the harassment and being talked down too. Can’t keep track of emails and lies about everything. Reported harrassment to HR because a the DM was Harrassing me. They have several class action lawsuits and I understand why. They mess up pay, report taxes wrong, forget to deduct amounts for benefits. Report birthdays wrong to insurance companies so they deny coverage. Very very poor HR and company all around. Often want employees to work alone and don’t provide enough gah hours for effective and SAFE environment. They don’t care about employees safety at all.

Pros

The vendors are great. Gratis is sweet of u love products

Cons

So many!!! They over work and UNDER pay. Micromanaging is not even close to what actually happens in this company. It’s crazy. They want a play by play for EVERY SINGLE THING that happens. EVERYDAY!! The reporting process is antiquated. It’s all very redundant and every process has a pumped up level of importance. Except for when actual important things arise..... then you get crickets. Nobody knows who to contact regarding human resource issues. Nobody can tell you why hours were cut. Nobody can tell you why the bonuses aren’t included in checks. But they want a swift response when that knock off m61 and dusty Lune&Nastier isn’t flying off the shelves. It’s a joke. The real problem I have is that the company CLAIMS to be team driven. But that’s not the reality. We aren’t even compensated based on performance. Why even bother trying. No work life balance AT ALL. Having a life outside of BM is not an option.

Pros

None . Not even gratis will make up for the abuse you will endure by upper management and corporate . Any positive reviews here have been written by people at corporate , or upper management. They need to boost their ratings on here so they can continue to staff their new stores they keep opening up ..... It’s widely known that There have only been 3 stores open in San Diego area for past year and a half (majority in Southern California are in Los Angeles) and there have been more than 3 recent positive store manager reviews for San Diego in past few months ! Fake! I would say the less than 5 star reviews are accurate . This is not a 5 Star company . Press release disclosed that they have so many stores opening up this year in west coast this year (30 in west coast , 50 total nationwide ) so it’s necessary for corporate to write fake positive reviews to offset all the real negative reviews . Otherwise they won’t be able to staff their upcoming opening stores and entice new recruits . Another important note : the 2 in-house brands have been created to imitate other top selling brands in stores and rival them for more profitability . After gaining trust and relationships with vendors and other supporting brands this is so wrong !!

Cons

You will not get paid for all the hours you work - especially as a store manager . Because of their commitment to being “scrappy” there will be deliberate understaffing and you will frequently have to work “open to close” with no lunch or breaks . You will be forced to clock out for a lunch but still work . You will forced to work a 12-14 hour day because of inventory and holiday party . This company doesn’t abide by California labor laws . There isn’t even a dedicated space for breaks and upper management will threaten you with a write up if you have water bottles or snacks on the utility cart in the back room which hardly is a break space , and will say that the VP of the company says the cart is for products only . This company doesn’t treat you as a human. They only care about their bottom line . You will as a manager have to pay out of pocket for many expenses - spa , events , toilet paper , supplies etc and wait to be reimbursed several weeks later . For our holiday party meeting we were told we would get “prizes “ - those “prizes” were 3-4 small fun size Halloween candies, tootsie pops etc in a tiny bag that had our holiday party presell goal for each person . THAT is how cheap and tacky this company is!! There are so many cons ..... Everyday you will be greeted by an abusive email by upper management telling you how much you and your team is not making the cut. The weekly hour plus long conference call with upper management and managers in her district is the worst non productive hour of useless manager bashing . You will not get paid for the hours you spend writing the store schedules . You will be told to manually “fix punches “ or corporate or upper management will fix for you so people don’t get paid all their overtime hours . So illegal . Upper management will change the schedule at will . You will be scolded and mistreated and denied most of the time for requests any time off . You will not be allowed to take a Saturday off . You will not be allowed to have a life outside of work You will get frequent texts to your personal cell phone by upper management including on Your one week day off . You will have mandatory conference calls on your day off so technically you’re not even being allowed to be off! Zero paid holidays! Open on Easter , Christmas Eve , Memorial Day , Fourth of July , Labor Day , New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day and no extra pay for working those days . Also in California there is supposed to be separate sick time . If you use sick time it comes out of your pto /vacation time which is illegal . This company needs to have another mass class-action law suit initiated against them for all the employees that started as of April 1, 2017. There was one already for spa employees . We need to hit them where it hurts the bottom line . They need to be held accountable for all their abuse! There is absolutely no growth . You will just be a minor cog in their merciless machine . You will not be paid for all your time worked . You will be underpaid . After your store does amazing you will be offered an offensive 50 cents raise . There is so much favoritism and politics . There is a store that doesn’t even make numbers but is a favorite of upper management in California and that store is never held accountable for their losses . There is another manager that has had their whole team quit on and many complaints from customers As well but is a favorite of upper management as well . Your time spent here will be a waste . Don’t let this company use your talents, creativity and life force . They don’t deserve it . The original co-founder of the company Barry Beck is quoted as saying he wants Bluemercury employees to be “human googles”. They just see you as a selling machine . Absolutely no room for growth as all people in dm/rm/vp /corporate positions are East Coast cronies that are all friends with each other .
