Pros

Taught one class while writing full-time at BU, with paid tuition for 75% of the courses taken. The program manager was amazing; love her to death.

Cons

The cash portion of the fellowship was not enough to live in downtown Boston; you'll need to augment your money to pay rent, much less food.

Pros

BU is a flexible, somewhat relaxed work environment with good benefits. It has a good reputation and a clear mission.

Cons

There is no established process for pay raises. Promotions are rare unless you apply for a new position. Employee turnover is high. BU is a non-profit, so the pay is less than at a comparable company. The finances are not always as efficiently managed as they could be, probably because the organization is not focused on profit.

Near Fenway. Wide range of departments and mobility. Free classes. Currently trying to fix multiple systemic and hereditary problems all at once.

Cons

Fractured administration. Antiquated IT systems and no technical support. Under-staffed at the bottom, over-staffed at the top. Pay is not competitive with other local universities or appropriate for the cost of living. 2.5% annual merit increases.
