Pros

Decent product. Some people are gems.

Cons

Talent organization is a disaster. At the very top were leaders who clearly did not know what they were doing and masked this through their constant promotion of “culture” and “inclusivity”. Shocker, it’s all a façade. There was no structure to the talent organization. No strategy. No utilization of data to support meaningful approaches to talent acquisition and retention. If you were favored by leadership, you would be rewarded for it. The complete opposite of a meritocratic work environment. Their whole approach to “DEI” and “inclusivity” included just saying the words over and over again while failing to actually act on implementing anything meaningful to create a truly inclusive and diverse environment. The talent org does NOT practice what it preaches. In general, the few POC hired at the company are often at entry level positions and don’t stay long. As a result, it is not a shock that most of the talent org was eventually terminated in such an inconsiderate and brazen manner. The worst part of the talent org was just the demeanor of leadership that can be summed up in no other way other than just fake. These are people that will smile in your face and tell you that you’re a vital asset to the team while plotting your termination in a subsequent meeting. This is all a shame, because despite the overwhelming negatives, the company does have a strong product and decent people. If you value strong leadership, well though out approaches to talent acquisition, pathways towards career progression, integrity, and a truly strong culture, DON’T work at Braze (especially in the talent org). As an added bonus, Braze is also becoming known for lowballing candidates and typically coming well below industry averages when it comes to compensation. So if you want competitive wages, especially in talent acquisition, don’t work here.

Don’t believe the hype

Pros

The offices are beautiful, the people are mostly smart, the pay is decent and the work is hybrid for now. Some managers and directors are great but too many are not. I made some great friends and connections. Benefits are top notch too.

Cons

It’s a very white-boys-club environment. The (white) women will say it’s a great place for woman but ask any person of color and they will give you a whole different story. The sales team is a mess, disorganized, cutthroat. The company is going through change but what they say on paper about supporting DEI is not supported at all. Many don’t know processes or the rules keep changing and there are too many programs. They are also pushing away from remote work. Also work life balance is awful at the end of the month and end of quarter.

DEI is a top priority at Braze. We are taking an inclusion-first approach to DEI, which means that we're designing DEI into our relevant business processes. The first business processes that we're focused on are hiring and manager training. We believe that this will have the best long-term impact. We have taken a step to be more transparent in this direction, publishing our first DEI data externally in our inaugural ESG report (https://www.braze.com/esg-report). Braze also has employee resource groups (ERGs) to support various protected and underrepresented groups. We have plans this year to better align and support ERGs, as they're an important part of Braze culture. DEI is an ever-evolving journey, and we will continually look to improve each year to achieve our goal of being an inclusive workplace. Regarding the working conditions mentioned in the blog post, most employees are hybrid, and office designation is at the discretion of one’s department. A majority of our employees are on go-to-market teams, which can expect busy seasons at the end of each quarter, pending progress on their individual goals.

Pros

- Amazing and smart coworkers who are willing to help - Free lunch when the office was opened (not sure if they'll even bring it back once the office reopens) - Pretty decent healthcare plans - Strong product for the most part

Cons

- Compensation is really lacking and not competitive at all compared to other tech companies. The salaries on Glassdoor are inflated - Reviews are inflated - Mid to upper level management claims to be transparent but information is communicated on a need to know basis a lot of the time - Leadership is too focused on optics (making it seem like employees are happy and never want to leave the company) instead of actually fixing what the issues are (I.e the feedback that employees give twice a year during the employee surveys are not really acknowledged)
