Pros

Strong relationships with families, donors and volunteers exist in some markets but National doesn't have a clue

Cons

Another name change and it remains unclear as to what this organization does or the disease they are representing - what is T1D? The general public doesn't know.

Great mission, poor leadership, lacking DE&I courage

Pros

The mission is true, actionable and making a real difference in the lives of those with type 1 diabetes. Great medical benefits. The people that work hard really make it a pleasure to work with.

Cons

A few years ago, the change in leadership altered the course of the organization for the worst. The inability to make decisions or act with confidence left middle managers and their reports to have to manage everything without prioritization. Even more importantly, there is a severe lack of diversity on the board, in leadership and throughout the organization. There is a lot of talk, but not much action. As with lack of guidance from leadership, this also meant chapters and departments were left with zero to little guidance on how to handle DE&I. The people that don't work hard at JDRF are rewarded for their behavior. 20% of the staff do 80% of the work.

Mis-managed organization that does not truly care about employees

Pros

Mission is admirable, most employees are good people

Cons

JDRF severely mishandled some financial situation during the COVID pandemic that left hundreds of people without jobs and funding for research severely diminished. After terminating everyone on furlough leave, they went on to post new jobs less than 6 weeks later to rebuild, which is extremely hurtful to the dedicated employees that they JUST FIRED! It's embarrassing for them and this organization is extremely tone deaf to the needs of anyone but themselves. Additionally, there is very very little room for career advancement. Something to worry about as young and mid-level professional.
