Pros

Working for a non-profit feels good working towards a good cause is always appealing.

Cons

Applied for a full time position, was offered a full time temp position, felt like a bait and switch from the beginning. Did meaningless clerical work (all the work that regular employees did not want to do), which I was fine with, but it was not very fulfilling. After three weeks, I was dismissed from my position, after being told that I was "not a good fit for the team," when I asked for more details, I was given none. I still do not understand what happened, I came in a half hour early every morning, and always checked in with my supervisor (telling her what i was working on that day, asking if there was anything that she needed me to do first, and asking for more work when I needed it, etc.). NOT RECOMMENDED TO OTHERS LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT

Pros

The mission and the cause are worthwhile. You get to work with amazing volunteers that are truly invested personally in the cause.

Cons

Management has absolutely no leadership or management skills. HR is a nightmare. The directions they give the ED's on how to address their staff is horrible. I'm surprised there have not been lawsuits. The ED's are incompetent. It seems that when one ED or regional moves from another organization, they just bring their flock. So you end up with a group of people not invested personally. You also end up with them pushing out great and tenures staff

Pros

Great mission Excellent benefits. Generous life insurance plan Volunteers who has passion for the mission

Cons

Bullying from upper management. Upper management accepting cash from vendors whom happens to be her personal friends hiding it through discounts on the invoices. Inappropriate relationships between upper management and board members. Upper management hires family members and friends which violates the code of ethics.
