Pros

Everyone buys into the mission of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. Volunteers make the place run, not the national office which is a snake pit of politics, backstabbing and low moral.

Cons

Moral is brutal at JDRF, arbitrary staff cuts, zero growth and a CEO who is utterly lost in his job. The cuts to senior staff are not tied to revenue growth, which is nonexistent, but rather to the whims of the CEO and former COO. Many very effective long term staff, some with decades of experience, have been fired in the past year because of a desire to clean house and start fresh. But these changes have not helped drive revenue.

Pros

I loved my job until everyone was laid off due to covid. I loved knowing I was hopefully making a difference in the world. I loved working on events and meeting great people who donated or volunteered.

Cons

I loved my job until everyone was laid off due to covid. There is a disconnect between national and local chapters. They also don't pay very well either. They expect a lot from you, but expect to pay you very little. I loved knowing I was hopefully making a difference in the world. They closed a lot of chapters trying to save money during covid. They said they were doing everything in their power to not let people go. I don't think the ceo took a pay cut. But I felt very mislead when all of the zoom meetings were very happy and made us feel secure when that wasn't the case..

Pros

Rallies around the mission. There are many talented individuals within the organization who are passionate about finding a cure for T1D. Pay and benefits are in line with the industry.

Cons

Struggles to recruit, hire and retain talented executives. For several years, it has been a revolving door of individuals who routinely lack any vision for the organization. Some executives are selected because of their connection to the mission rather than for being exceptional business leaders. As a result, business strategy is inconsistent, ineffective and erratically circuitous.
