Pros

As with most organizational restructures, there are those resistant to change but those who have been adaptable and have vision for the reasons behind the restructure have excelled. There are still some refinements to be done, but I truly believe JDRF is working towards a collaborative and supportive work environment. The current staff who work in the Vancouver office will win your hearts over. They are passionate, fun, resilient, and have strong work ethic. The driving force behind this small but mighty team is their dedication to the work that JDRF does for the type 1 community. JDRF is determined to find a cure for this disease; there is a reason why JDRF is the leading national charitable funder of diabetes research in Canada.

Cons

Work-life balance is an issue, but they are working on making it a priority.

Pros

Meaningful cause with passionate volunteers and fundraisers. You have the opportunity to meet and develop wonderful relationships with families who are directly connected to Type 1 Diabetes--best part of the job!

Cons

On a local level there is no direct guidance or training--expected to learn your job through PowerPoints trainings which isn't realistic. Executive Director does not know how to train you for your position and will micro-manage staff. IT and reporting that is available for staff use falls far behind industry standards making it impossible to provide accurate information and analysis to superiors and board members--they are unaware. Stroking the egos of board and committee members comes before the wants and needs of the families served. In my experience, there is a persistent pattern of mistreatment and bullying from others in the workplace preventing you from effectively doing your job.
