Pros

flexible, very flexible. Sometimes you do not get any hours. But they do work around your schedule. However, during busy days or months, they will ask you for more availability. offer children routines and activities during the day to create a fun and structured environment. Can ask teachers and directors for feedback or advice. "Open door policy"

Cons

hardly any hours to work. You should have or will need a second job. Associate Teachers are underpaid. They should make more than 10.00 per hour. Sometimes they function as Head Teachers. In back-up, you must dress professional as if you work in a bank. It's hard to keep up with the children with dressy shoes. The environment doesn't feel "relaxed". Since all the rooms are interconnected, children and teachers hear everything that is happening, even during nap time, which is not good for the children. For example, a child crying in a toddler room disturbs a preschoolers sleep. Or the school age room gets loud during quiet time and awake the sleeping toddlers or preschoolers. The rooms are small and there is not enough lighting in the place overrrall. Bright Horizons back-up needs some major improvements.

Pros

Flexible schedules, family/community atmosphere, good benefits

Cons

Growth is at a snails pace, unless you work on a team where your leader is in tune with his/her team. If not, forget it. A lot of leaders are lazy and complacent, the very definition of phoning it in. They're enjoying the child care benefit and barely showing up to actually work, which stifles or completely overworks those who work for them. No career advancement in the corporate office. Told by upper management numerous times that we "serve" center employees. Compensation is way below market, and it's common knowledge and expressed by management that they have no interest in fair market compensation. Management is terrified of change and conflict and will ignore very obvious signs of discontent or trouble. Even if you bring concerns to higher and higher levels, prepare to be completely ignored. They'll tell you the right thing to your face, but real change WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Instead, they spend time and money on skits and parties and showcases of how great we all are. Management is drunk on it's own Kool Aid, emperor has no clothes, and a few more cliches...

Pros

Friendly and family like staff. Bosses who stood up for you and made sure you were treated fairly and kindly by parents. Accommodating and understanding of personal situations. Raise every year on one year anniversary. Very diverse and accepting of all cultures.

Cons

Some days are long hours when too many teachers are out. Lunch breaks aren’t on a exact schedule it’s based on when someone can come sit in your class and relieve you.
