Pros

The staff members are warm and friendly, and most genuinely care about making a difference in others' lives. The majority of my coworkers are passionate about their work and often say "I love what I do". If you are looking for a place that offers huge intrinsic rewards, ResCare might be the place for you.

Cons

While great lip service is paid to helping people reach their highest potential, the main focus is on external customer service. Little attention is paid to internal employee growth and development. Whether you're "working hard or hardly working", your compensation will most likely not reflect your competence. Raises are minimal to nonexistant and there is a feeling of being "stuck" in most positions. Our office has experienced a high amount of turnover due to dissatisfaction with compensation and lack of career advancement opportunities.

Senior Management is failing us

Pros

Being part of a dedicated team who strives to make a difference in the lives of others.

Cons

Communication is a large problem at ResCare and this problem stems from Senior Management who would rather pass the buck than make a decision. Senior Management is so concerned about cutting budgets so they can keep their cozy positions and salaries, they are losing focus on what the business is all about. Doing the right thing and knowing the right thing to do is not a motto that corporate and the Senior Management should be using.

Pros

No accountability. There has been a hiring freeze in place since late 2008. Managers not only can't hire for new positions, they can't replace those that leave. Because of this, over time, the inmates now run the asylum and management will do anything (or nothing) to risk losing an employee, even the poorly performing ones.

Cons

There are no benefits or growth opportunities to speak of. They have done away with all raises and the 401(k) match, there is no opportunity for personal or professional development, and there are no internal promotion possibilities to speak of. When asked in a 'town hall' setting the CEO said that ResCare is not suspending raises or on a hiring freeze, but rather those attributes represent business as usual going forward.
