Pros

Since Brooks is all about running, you are able to run in the middle of the day and come back to the office in your workout clothes and no one cares! They are very lax about what you wear and the culture is amazing.

Cons

You really do have to like running. Everything you are making, brainstorming and creating is about running and running lifestyle so it is best if you know what they are talking about. The company is getting bigger so it is starting to feel a little too big (you dont know who anyone is). Since Brooks has such an amazing culture they don't have to pay very well. Just know you aren't going to be a millionaire if you work here.

Tolerates Bullying

Pros

Fun events (during and outside work hours), real commitment to customer service. The company makes terrific product and offers very good discounts on it. For some departments, the opportunity for promotion is incredibly high.

Cons

The organization pays lip service to Work Happy because it tolerates bullying in multiple levels of the organization. Employees bully colleagues (at the same level) by excluding them from activities and from getting information, as well as by being rude and inappropriate in interactions. Managers either do nothing about the bullies or are bullies themselves. Not every manager is a bully, but the ones who are are widely known as such and yet nothing is done about them. While some departments promote quickly and often, other departments find their employees in the same position with the same title (but increasing responsibilities) for as much as a decade. Career ladder is very inconsistent across departments. Benefits are pretty terrible and the pay is not competitive. Sales and growth targets aren't meeting expectations so bonuses are down from previous years' payout levels.

Pros

I've been here 3 yrs now and it's a great culture full of people who are passionate about being active and running. I don't run anymore but am active and love that you're encouraged to be active (it's now one of our core values) including we have Friday runs now in our calendars that is supported by the CEO on down. I love that my work is challenging and rewarding and its fun to be a part of a growing company. I work in a supportive team and I do see that I can move up the ladder here career wise. I have not experienced the "boys club" and I'm seeing more women getting promoted into the Director and above levels which is great. Comp is fine, benefits are good. I'm sure I could make more $ elsewhere but no way would I have such great people and culture! Of the 5 companies I've worked at (and a 3 have been top Seattle companies) this is by far the most rewarding job and company I've experienced. Brooks is amazing and I'm grateful for such a great culture and the people.

Cons

Growth mode has created some tough times in some teams due to what changes are happening (new systems, changes in processes etc) and we obviously can't work the same way we did as a smaller company and get the same results. Can be risk averse at times and we definitely need to make sure that people who don't align with our culture and values are shown the door.
