Pros

They pay well and have good benefits. They pay double-time on five holidays throughout the year. Employees start accumulating vacation days on the "first day" of employment. They do offer OT hours, but it's those employees who have good attendance and a good work ethic (who show up each day with a positive attitude and actually "work") that receive priority on OT hours. Management is very nice and speak to employees with respect. Managers and employees get along well for the most part (at least at the Waller, TX location) and it's a fun atmosphere for the most part. You can learn whatever you want to learn in your department. Take the initiative to learn and grow and you will. There are so many more positives to working for this company there isn't enough room to list them all. There is a lot of room for advancement or an employee can make a lateral move, from one department to another, or position to another in the same pay scale, if they want to learn other skills or departments. The managers do actually notice the employees who work hard and do things "Buc-ee's" way and not their own. Just having a good paying job, regardless of the hours, is a pro in and of itself. I'm so very thankful and appreciative that I was afforded the opportunity to work for such a reputable company, where customer service is top-notch and ways to provide more incentives to employees are also considered. There policies and procedures are clear cut. Every Friday is pay day.

Cons

There is an abundance of lazy, spoiled, self-entitled young people who have no respect for their supervisors or their co-workers, who do as little as possible but make the same grade of pay as everyone else. And yet, they complain about how much they hate their job and don't want to be there. All of these negative comments on this site are from disgruntled employees who do as little as possible to get through the day, all the while pushing most of their workload on to their co-workers. I'm sure they're also the ones who coincidentally get sick when the weekend approaches or who need to leave early to get to a party or complete homework for school they've known about all semester yet procrastinated on until the last minute it's due. They stand around talking while there are customers to be taken care because they could care less their chatting is prolonging orders being made in a timely manner or correctly. As far as Cons with Buc-ee's as a company, there's not a single one to list here. Not a single con to list!! The cons aren't with "the company". The cons stem 100% from having to work with young adults who think they have no responsibility to their employer or co-workers beyond blessing us with their presence. They think merely showing up entitles them to a paycheck. The company as a whole is amazing! Don't be stirred in the wrong direction by the negative comments. Submit your application and find your own place with the company. If one position isn't right for you, wait six months and apply to another department.

It’s a job

Pros

There is a decent mix of employees, the pay is good ($13 as a cashier and $14 for maintenance and deli with overnight getting a $2 differential), double pay on federal holidays, somewhat flexible scheduling (mostly for school), the benefits have been getting better (they just added 401k starting on July 1st, 2018), almost guaranteed hours, and they will understand if your late due to heavy traffic but only if multiple people are late and also if you are having car trouble

Cons

You work 7-8 hours with only one “moment” that lasts 5-7 minutes, most if not all of the management has terrible communication, quite a bit of time-off requests get denied even if you give them a few months notice sometimes, if other shifts have a hard time getting off in time then your shift may lose a few hours to make up for it (it makes no sense to punish a different shift for management’s lack of ability to get their shift off in time), very strict rules (even if you use a loophole to get around some they also added in the handbook that it is up to the general manager’s discretion and they can tell you to go home and fix the issue on the spot, I have first hand experience), the will write you up or fire you over pretty much anything (late 1 minute and called to say u will be; you get written up and after 3 write-ups your fired, I have seen a situation where an employee was being harassed by a customer when trying to assist them and in the end management wanted to write them up so that individual quit, you cannot have your phone turned on and if they find out you will be fired immediately, management pretty much just walks around the store or sit in the office and be on their phones a lot of times and be on Facebook and not doing anything work related and the can also sit down and eat while playing on their phone; I’ve actually seen a manager play a game on their phone in the middle of a shift but mostly Facebook. The list goes on for a while but this is where I’m stopping.

Pros

Good pay, 40 + hours for full time. Pay is based on position, cashier 13$, maintance/deli 14$ and team lead 15/16$ so everyone in the same position as you makes the same pay. Coworkers are nice and hard workers for the most part.

Cons

Please read before you apply to bucees or accept a job there. Consider other options like Walmart 11$ or heb 9-13$ first. I ignored all the reviews before working here. Big mistake. Very strict rules there is a 60% chance you will get fired no matter how good of an employee you are!(maybe even higher) 5 seconds late is as bad as 3 hours late. Get in a car accident, traffic jam, natural disaster. Don't expect any of this to keep you from getting written up. You get 3 write ups then you are fired. If you are a favorite you might get another chance MAYBE. Write ups don't go away for a year. Once you get fired from a job that will effect all future jobs, trust me it is not worth the risk. If you can afford to do so I highly recommend finding a different place to work!
