A fun job if you like children.

Pros

It's a fun job. You don't stand around folding clothes or flipping burgers all day. You get to help build bears, dress up during launch weekends, and interact with children.

Cons

If you're not a huge fan of children, I wouldn't recommend working here. While not every customer you help is a child, most will be. While this is a fun job, it's also a very tiring job. You spend the day hosting parties, building bears, and helping customers. This job will keep you on your feet until your shift is over.

Beary different from a few years ago.

Pros

Working with the kids. Suggestive selling vs. forcing it on guests. Playing with a purpose. Training for management is fantastic. Most coworkers were great to work with.

Cons

Plans are set very high, so they are not obtainable. Raises are minimal, even for stores exceeding corporate goals. District managers only communicate with store manager on a regular basis, and not the management team. Favoritism is shown from higher management levels based on longevity with the company. Higher management levels also favor the people they have placed into a position, and not the business results that an individual has accomplished. High turnover rates for bear builders due to lack of hours. Birthday parties with no cap off for how many kids could be there. (Personally had up to 45 kids with one person to assist.) Corporate and store appreciation has greatly decreased over the years. Product quality also is deteriorating.

Pros

I never get bored at my job, that's for sure!! I love interacting with all of the guests - kids and adults alike! There is never a dull moment, and I am always having a blast. I love my co-workers, and Build-A-Bear takes very good care of us all. They are constantly rewarding us with pizza parties, gifts at Christmas times, prizes for winning monthly contests, and more! I also really love the direction that the company is going in. It's definitely focused around the values it was founded upon, and that is something that is so important to me when working for a company.
