Pros

All of my coworkers and managers, as well as every single employee I've met has been incredibly friendly, helpful and very hard working. BT has a fun and relaxed atmosphere which actually encourages hard work because you love being there and are not dying to go home at the end of each day. The benefits are top notch as well. The on-boarding for each new employee is over the top amazing and helpful. The senior staff members are all approachable and eager to communicate to each and every employee, no matter their position. I have not met anyone with an ego. They actually have a "no @$$hole policy" printed on the wall! Everyone is treated as an equal in terms of respect. I love my job!

Cons

my only con is I wish it was in walking distance of my house

Pros

Work life balance. This is genuinely great at Buildertrend! People are required to be in the office for 9 hours straight, and almost everyone leaves work right when they hit those 9 hours. Lots of "fun" perks (video games, free beer, etc). Your mileage may vary depending on how interested you are in this stuff. Modernizing tech stack - the company has prioritized converting from Web Forms to React in 2020, this will definitely pay off going forward.

Cons

The company seems to optimize around the convenience of a few long-tenured developers at the expense of everyone else. A couple examples: 1. To keep valued developers from having to investigate bug reports, they conscript new developers for 6-12 month stints on "triage". While on triage, developers aren't allowed to do any development (and then get docked in evals for a lack of big accomplishments). 2. Their favorite developers were still unhappy about being asked to develop fixes to bugs they introduced, so Buildertrend also established a "code health" team that gets to spend all of their day writing bug fixes for other peoples errors. This team is not allowed to talk to the developers who introduced these bugs, because Buildertrend doesn't want to "distract" their preferred devs. Poor career development - many developers have languished for several years without receiving promotions, even while receiving exclusively positive feedback from managers. It's unsurprising that as a result, lots of devs have checked out and spend half their day playing video games or watching YouTube. Buildertrend does a very poor job of motivating and incentivizing talented engineers. Only a select handful of devs are allowed to perform code reviews. These devs get overburdened and start auto-approving pull requests, ruining our code quality. Below average pay for Omaha (thus VERY below average pay by national standards).

This dedicated team also gives entry-level developers the opportunity to grow their skills during their three month rotation. Buildertrend is not a place where you have to wait your turn to advance. In the past 18 months, 38% of employees have earned promotions in the Engineering division. As one of the fastest-growing companies in Omaha, new positions, roles and opportunities are constantly being created. Great atmosphere and great people to be around.

Cons

BDR role is very tedious and irritating as you are required to make 150 calls each day to contractors that have no prior knowledge of company.
