Purposeful Work (But Sometimes Isolating)

Pros

It is a rewarding job. Seeing the kids grow and learn is a definite highlight of the job. You get to leave work feeling like you have served a beautiful purpose! The starting pay is decent as well and there are opportunities to get a raise. If you are able to recommend someone to the job they also offer referral bonuses. The BCBAs that I worked with were all very friendly and seemed to care a lot about the kids we worked with.

Cons

ABA, while very rewarding, can be a difficult field especially when working in homes. With in-home therapy, you often don't have contact with co-workers and have minimal contact with supervisors. It can be a little isolating at times. It can be easy to get stressed out and even burned out in this field without the proper support systems. That is why having systems of support (such as mentoring, available stress management resources, frequent "check-ins" by supervisors, team meetings, etc) for techs is so important. I do think BE is definitely working toward providing better support for techs working in the field and I had seen a lot of positive growth during my time there. This "con" is more of an encouragement to keep working toward that goal of providing techs with support and resources to help manage stress and avoid isolation and burn out. It is an area that can always get better and I think BE has really begun to plan and implement strategies to get there.

Pros

Butterfly Effects has amazing employees and supervisors that are very positive. They work really hard to get you clients and the training is super hands on. They don’t just throw you in there, instead they guide you step by step. Getting to work in this field and make a difference is so rewarding. I can’t wait to grow with this company.

Cons

The hiring process and certification process is a little long. It took me a couple of months or so. Due to that I didn’t immediately have income. It’s part time so I do t get benefits or PTO.

Pros

Working with kids with ASD is very rewarding

Cons

I quit the job because I found it very unstable. Client's would cancel last minute and sometimes management didn't pay for a driving time because the client had canceled. Also, I quit the job because I had to do my supervisor’s tasks all the time. meaning that he didn't know the client very well so I was the one creating the activities for his plan and correcting them since the data recollection methods were always wrong. On top of that when I quit I was expecting to get paid the week after and it has been a month and a half and I sill haven't received my check. I keep emailing them and they make excuses saying that they are going to send me a check and then I never receive anything. After four emails I decided I was going to fill in a complaint in the labor department since they do not want to pay me for the job I did
