All the negative reviews are true!

Pros

Best coworkers I've ever had. Really amazing people work there.

Cons

First, all the negative reviews are true. Don't be fooled by the positive ones, the founder wrote those himself or told someone to write a positive review to offset all the negative ones. Second, business is a disaster. So many competitors have opened since the company started and Buy It Installed can't get it together to show a profit. Third, the founder is delusional and thinks he is an expert at everything so he won't let anyone do anything, even though the company is filled with smart people. He is so self-centered (read the company "About Us," it's just a bio for Todd...) and is running the business into the ground. The company has insane turnover for a reason. There is literally no reason to join this company. AVOID at all costs!

Pros

There are some genuinely nice and talented employees who work there, but they are constantly getting micromanaged and not able to contribute effectively. Far too many people just going through the motions, as opinions and expertise are not valued if they don't align with what Todd (the founder) wants. Brent (Director of Business Analysts), Arvinder (SVP of Software) and Jeff (HR Director) are excellent and make things better for those who are still stuck there.

Cons

I'm going to try and keep this brief, as this could potentially be its own blog. I saw the culture go down hill drastically and become oppressive and depressing. The company does not prioritize the right projects and everyone gets assigned busy work . One person, Todd, dictates what the entire company and each department should be working on, rather than allowing the department leads to lead their departments and set their own priorities. When Todd is out of the office, actual work gets completed and the office becomes a better place to be. Todd is not a mean person, but he's paranoid, doesn't trust people, and a micro-manager like you've never seen. He makes working at BII a con in and of itself. I hear the company will run out of money soon, unless they can get more investors, so it may be a risky proposition taking a miserable job with them. Lastly, there is no work-life balance and I know some of the management puts in 60+ hour work weeks. If you are salaried, they make you work a lot of mandatory overtime.

Thank you for your positive comments about our team members and for taking the time to share your feedback. Please know that we take these comments very seriously. Creating a positive work environment is a top priority, and we are always looking to evolve that culture and find more ways to support and reward team members. It is important to me to make the effort to speak with every employee on a personal level and ensure that we maintain an engaged and caring environment for everyone. The unique nature of our work requires team members learn an extensive range of new ideas and practices, all of which require regular training and support. Our managers are passionate about teaching the people on their team to grasp new concepts and skills and to increase their overall performance. So, managers—including our company founder and our CEO—do work closely with employee. It’d be easy for that to be misconstrued as mistrust. But it is actually providing the support and guidance necessary for success at Buy It Installed, Inc. We’re doing some pretty advanced stuff here, so training is super important in order to get it right. But as our unique product has come together the team morale has moved towards affirmation that we’ve together done something monumental. We also understand that different work styles are not always the right fit for our methods and procedures. We have implemented a new vetting and interview process that does a better job of matching the right type of person to our culture and the tasks we have to do. And as we have grown beyond the start-up phase, we have also developed a more dispersed leadership structure. We are full of competent leaders well able to execute company strategy and coach new team members to be prepared to thrive here. Apologies if it wasn’t for you, and we weren’t able to mutually identify that earlier. But I promise there are a lot of people here for whom the fit is great. And we are enthusiastic that we are having greater success in finding such fits early on. And with our continued expansion there will be more such hires ahead! I’m actually confident that if we talked you’d applaud the progress and even join us in helping recruit people who are a match for these new jobs. Pros

The business model is logical and can be a big hit, and really change the way we buy products that need installation

Cons

The CEO is cruel, impossible to work with, and is the single biggest risk to the company. This makes the culture toxic.
