Don't be in Sales at CA

You learn about a breadth of solutions that will be valued by other tecnology companies

Cons

Expect sales people to be treated as slaves. There is no such thing as work balance. We were not allowed to take one day of vacation other than the literal corporate holidays the last month of every quarter. Yes that includes Christmas. You got Christmas day off and don't expect to leave at noon on Christmas eve either. Thye watched who left early. Saturday account reviews were somewhat common.

CA has lots of resources but its bureaucratic environment makes it hard for someone to make a difference.

Pros

Big company with lots of resources and customers. It's a lot easier to sell into an environment where CA is the incumbent. CA actually has some talented people that work there too.

Cons

Company is its own worst enemy in imposing bureaucracy on any individual initiative to change things. Creating a new product is extremely difficult with all of the hoops that have to be jumped through: legal, pricing, sales operations, etc. People with a high sense of drive either get beaten down over time and stop trying, or they leave and go somewhere where their contribution will make more of a difference.

Pros

Free healthcare insurance and free breakfasts are a thing of the past, but CA still has great benefits, including profit sharing and tuition reimbursement.

Cons

As a salesperson, it's annoying to have your world 'C'hange 'A'lways - every April when the new fiscal year starts, you'd have new accounts, new focus, etc. The local sales management team is a boys club that smacks of a high school popularity contest. There is little team cohesiveness and longevity among sales reps and management alike. In my 5+ years there, I had 7 managers. It's exhausting continually trying to 'prove' yourself once again, but alas, that's sales.
