Pros

You can set your own schedule. Benefits are decent (not great). People in this local office are generally nice, good people.

Cons

This place is what many of us referred to as a "GIS sweatshop". Think of a task that needs to be done multiple time on multiple maps, but cannot easily be automated by a script. You're job is to do that task manually, hundreds, or even thousands of times. The work is mind numbingly boring, and barely qualifies as GIS work - and the pay reflects that. You will learn little to nothing about real GIS work, and upward job mobility is basically nonexistent. Upper management likes to hire far too many people to do the job, then when there is a lull in work load, they lay off half the staff to protect their profit margins. Then, when more work comes in, they will go on a big hiring spree, have to retrain a ton of new people, and then in a few years, when the workload goes down, many of those people will get laid off again. This has been a consistent pattern, and has happened multiple times in this office's history. CACI exemplifies the worst in corporate culture. No one beyond your direct supervisor has any vested interest in you or your career.

Pros

After the acquisition of NSS, there were no direct cuts to our pay. That we've seen. So far. But then again, I've only been here for two days.

Cons

For a company that will soon have 4.4 billion in annual revenue, this is a pretty nickel and dime operation. Their most 'comprehensive' health plan costs 320/month (self + spouse) or $3800/year. For this you still get an annual per person deductible of $750 that you have to pay out of pocket before you see a dime of advantage. --HR was called on this and their answer was a shuffle footed 'we offer some health wellness credit to offset some of this...if you jump through some hoops' That is their best plan. Everything else just gets worse. Have to sign a piece of paper declaring that you don't smoke, even in your own home, or you get hit with am extra insurance cost. Dental (Delta) - over three times as expensive, less than half the benefit. Matched 401K pay out only occurs on December 31st. Anything you would have gotten between Dec 31st and the day you leave reverts to the company. No 1-1 401K match. It's all 50% matched up to 6% (your 6, their 3). Still have the golden handcuffs of a 3 year vesting requirement. Bi-monthly pay periods - instead of getting paid every two weeks you get paid on the 7th and 22nd... sometimes your pay hits on a Monday, sometimes on a Thursday. For this p.i.t.a CACI gets to save on payroll costs... by running 24 instead of 26 payrolls a year. A less than 10% cut. This same policy is why the flexibility of being able to work a 9/80 schedule is gone.. gone.. gone..

Pros

I was able to work from home. CACI has a generous leave package. The pay was good.

Cons

Management constantly changed metrics. Most of the changes were geared towards getting a case released sooner. The problem was, the new changes did not allow the review department to accurately claim the work we did. This caused management to believe that we were not as productive as we actually were. The review department and myself made it clear to management that the new metric system is causing a lot of our work to go unclaimed. This means that we were working cases and not getting credit. Supervisors did not understand how to work around this issue and employees were left constantly worried that it would appear that our performance was not meeting standards. I was only able to claim a small portion of the work I actually completed. Executive management also favorited the investigators over review. Bonus packages were being set up for high performing investigators. The only perk for a reviewer was given was a four ten hour day work week. Retention was terrible and the morale was worse. I was always under stress over my metrics and received no guidance from my supervisor. I wish I could give senior management zero stars. The company is always preaching about integrity, but they had no problem laying people off, driving people to quit due to a stressful work environment and displaying blatant favoritism.
