Pros

Remembering the good old days where you were heard and respected. Lots of events to try to boost falling morale.

Cons

Following the new mantra of 'Do more with less' to the letter! Co-worker left and I her duties were added to mine. Another was let go, her duties transferred to someone, then I got her old duties added. Another left and once again, I got more duties added. Basically doing the majority of 4 jobs, and was reprimanded when I couldn't keep up. Never had a bad review or comment until this nonsense started, then I couldn't do anything right. Honestly feel like I was set up to fail so they could get someone in there doing what I originally did for half the salary! If you're thinking about working there, think twice. If you're there now, watch your back.

Pros

Many of us have to be in the office even though we don’t need to be, but our president is usually missing in action. Listing this as a “pro” because the office is better when he’s away. To be fair, our last president was barely around. So no change there. Casual dress code is very nice because we can be more comfortable when working and dress more appropriately depending on the season. At least in the section I’m in, the work atmosphere is very laid back, albeit sometimes too distracting. Most people are friendly and we can be ourselves. No mass layoffs or job cuts, unless you’re in sales/the field and it’s before bonuses go out.

Cons

Carfax advertises their compensation as “competitive”, which is another way of saying “average” or “not industry leading”. The company keeps emphasizing “overall compensation”. Newsflash: we can’t pay rent or mortgages with free Wednesday lunch or measly Grubhub giftcards. Our last president oozed enthusiasm for Carfax products and services, Carfax was his baby. Not getting the sense our current president shares that same passion. All he ever really cares about is sales and revenue. Instead of talking about products, now all we hear about is revenue and sales. Yawwwwwn. We’ve become indistinguishable from any other corporation. Growing revenue doesn’t inspire people, especially when it’s not reflected in their paychecks. Carfax has no clue that when paychecks don’t go up, workers actually get more annoyed hearing about revenue growth. Even some of the other leaders and managers don’t care anymore. They show up and do the bare minimum (welcome to the club!) Some of them walk around with dollar signs in their eyes, sizing us up on how to keep making sales or cut costs. I don’t even feel like an employee anymore. Remote work gave Carfax a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at scoring enormous goodwill with employees. Instead, they fumbled the ball at the 1 yard line by telling everybody to get back into the office for no good reason. Carfax is so focused on looking great, they’ve forgotten how to BE great.

Please have a conversation with your manager if you are dissatisfied with your compensation. A healthy business has a growing team of great people that are committed to delivering on our mission while keeping an eye on the bottom line. Our team continues to grow stronger, our products are the best there is, and our future is very bright.

Pros

If you enjoy micromanaging, mid month change of job requirements and having your pay plan effected every time you turn around, this is the job for you! You want more pros you say? How’s about pointless “we care” meetings, redundant staff surveys and total disregard to work life balance.. stop everything and apply now.

Cons

In all seriousness CARFAX was a great place to work. We once had an amazing team dynamic. There have been many recent changes and while they try to figure out which one of the strong headed ego maniac managers objectives they are going to follow, they are losing sight on their staff. Drink the koolaid. Don’t speak up or ask questions you will be retaliated against. Favoritism is real. HR is not here to protect you. They are only looking out for the themselves.

Thanks for taking the time to send us your feedback. You’ve been with us for a long time and have seen that this is a challenging period of change for most other companies and ours. We’re doing our best to balance the needs of our business and the wishes of our team, which means sometimes making tough decisions. Those decisions can’t always please everyone, but we do make them based on the feedback of our team and other factors that help us determine what’s best for Team CARFAX. It’s disappointing to hear your experience isn’t what we strive for since our mission, culture, values, and team-first focus remain the same as when you started. We’re still a great place to work that provides a solid work-life balance, with the additional time off in the summer, winter holidays and a hybrid work schedule requiring a few days per week in office. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. - CARFAX HR
