This place has so much potential but they have a culture of fear. Fear of change, technology, being blamed/fired, management and fear of the opinions of others. This really causes a morale problem you have never seen a more quite office. There is a resistance to new ideas and system advancement. As mentioned there is no growth path and raises are super small.
There is an attitude of doing things the way it has always been done and never putting your name on anything because if it's not perfect, heads will roll. This also causes dinner pointing. There is shaming involved if there is a mistake. In one situation, there was a typo that was not caught and everyone who did not catch it was written up by hr. One person was fired everyone was chewed out in front of ask their co-workers a quality meeting and there were pictures of the typos posted around the floor.
The information systems are from the stone age and make unnecessary paperwork. Suggesting upgrades will be meet with contention. There is no centralized information systems between departments or locations. People who work there are fired as opposed to finding a better systems. While I worked there I watched many customer service people get fired for the same paperwork problem.
There is also an attitude of being secretive, no one wants anyone to know what they are doing (again see blame and shame).
The only thing that money will be spent on is machines. Ordering even basic office supplies like pens and paper is a struggle. There is a lot of paperwork and meetings with management where you must justify weather you really need pens and legal pads. Annoying and a bad use of company/management time.
There is not a growth path if you are not hired as upper management there is a very little chance of getting there.
