Pros

Nothing. The company is doing nothing right. Wish I would have never wasted my time there.

Cons

LONG HOURS. All you do is work and sleep. Especially during harvest but really its all year around. Upper management doesn't listen to a word you say. Started a 50K but really you are only making 12 bucks an hours because of all the hours you work.

CGB Enterprises Response

During harvest season, employees in our Grain business often work longer hours than usual. This is required in order to meet the needs of our customers. During the balance of the year, this is not the case; we - as a company - believe that work/life balance is important and continue to look for ways to underscore this with our employees. Pros

CGB has some well-placed and strategically located domestic assets. The firm attracts high quality entry-level talent in junior roles. Merchandising staff are generally intelligent and motivated, and the office environment is usually friendly and cooperative. Competitive starting salary for college graduates. Offers a high level of responsibility and individual discretion very early on in training and development. Employees become well-versed in their roles quickly.

Cons

Struggles to retain above-average staff for more than a few years. Salary increases and bonuses are not competitive with industry competitors as one progresses. Extremely high level of employee turnover in merchandising offices. Lack of long-term career planning and advancement opportunities - not much room for growth after a couple years. Not nearly as global as competing commodity firms. CGB has a very Japanese and Asia-centric focus and lacks awareness of other major import markets (i.e. Europe, Middle East, Africa). No overseas assets or offices aside from parent company HQ in Japan.

Pros

- Training is intense in a good way. I felt comfortable with operations within a couple weeks of immersion. - If you stick it out high-paying & high-reward positions exist within the company. Upper-level staff seems very happy with their roles. - Your staff will be family to you, as you'll spend more time with them than family and rely on each other for safety. - If you have good facility management your experience can be good.

Cons

- Very cult-like atmosphere among the workers. Lots of young employees who only spend time with other employees of the company, and anyone questioning management or otherwise expressing displeasure is met harshly. - Hours are entirely out-of-line for salaried workers with consistent 80-90 hour weeks through harvest and at least 60 through non-peak times. This is alright if tied to compensation, but I pretty consistently made less than $12/hr once averaged across hours (which is less than a laborer's starting pay). - Operations advancement has considerably less to do with your own capabilities as much as what holes need filled in other facilities. Plan on moving 3+ times in your early career if you want to move up. - If you have bad facility management plan on spending very little time with friends or family, as well as being available by phone and email during what little time you get.
