Pros

The kids we help and being in a children's hospital is the reason I stay working here. I love working and helping the families.

Cons

Not appreciated. The administration is only concerned with promoting the hospital. They aren't very receptive to the concerns of the staff.

Pros

Several great HR staff working on the front line to support managers and candidates.

Cons

I have experienced first hand how ineffective the HR Management Team is. This has been an ongoing problem that continues to get worse. I needs to be addressed! You can't hire exceptional talent when the staff is over-managed, stressed out and handling a workload that is considered extreme. The CEO and Sr. Executive Team paid big money for a consulting firm to show them how to cut costs. Two rounds of lay-offs, then the busy season comes and then they start paying overtime and wear our employees out. So they go out and hire registry and travelers which puts them right back where they started. And for a nonprofit organize, how does CEO make 1.8 million yearly when the budget is in the red!!! Too many EMTs are paid a lot of money, never see the patients or the staff that provide superior care & service. Their lack of interest in employee well being is a sin and should not be allowed to drive CHOC into the ground while they collect their enormous salaries and pensions.

Senior Management's Misguided Priorities

Pros

I had a good salary. Benefits started out being good. I learned a great deal about how to build a new hospital, select and validate equipment etc.

Cons

Benefits deteriorated over 6 years I was there while Senior Management spent millions of dollars on pursuit of honors and designations and enterprise-wide culture-change projects. Six months after I left (having heard the train coming down the track), CHOC had massive layoffs, something that Senior Management had promised would "never" happen again since the last major layoff in the 1990s.
