Pros

Coworkers are generally nice. These are the boots on the ground people doing the work. They are kind and supportive.

Cons

Leadership is lacking in all areas. Some decisions have been made that do not make sense. A $500M investment in technology when the firm is hemorrhaging in all other areas. They did so poorly that they capped raises at 3% and not everyone received one. They changed the salaries of many employees from hourly to salaried and tried to sell it to staff as a positive thing. Now they are breathing down everyone's neck to work a minimum of 60 hours per week with talk of mandatory overtime. Even ir the company is thriving do not expect a bonus. They do not believe in that. They are investing millions into these things called connection centers. This is more tone deaf behavior. You cannot tell staff they are not receiving raises but spend money on things that are not required in the moment. There are some good MPO's but many are just title chasers. They have no loyalty to their own employees. They only care about their own standing. The operations staff is overworked and underpaid. People are leaving the firm in large numbers. Regional leaders are fighting for relevance, often times putting their personal preferences and biases ahead of what is best for the company. They force DEI down or throat but I have witnessee blatant discrimination against individuals for varying reasons including health issues. They do not practice what they preach. If staff likes a supervisor then leadership will target them. It is becoming more and more toxic by the day.

Disappointing Experience

Pros

Some colleagues are genuinely nice and supportive. The office location is convenient. Major CPA firm experience

Cons

Leadership Only Cares About Profits: The company claims to prioritize employees, but actions speak louder than words. Leadership is focused solely on maximizing profits, with little regard for employee well-being. Terrible Work-Life Balance: Despite the company’s claims of being "employee-friendly," the work-life balance is practically nonexistent. Long hours and unrealistic expectations are the norms, leading to burnout and stress. Toxic Work Environment: Bullying from several leaders is rampant, and there is little to no accountability for their actions. This toxic atmosphere has led to an increase in work-related stress, and many employees suffer from mental health issues as a result. Unjust Terminations: Recently, the company abruptly fired several long-term employees without any notice or warning. This lack of job security and respect for dedicated employees is alarming. Poor Compensation: The pay is simply not worth the toll this job takes on your mental and physical health. The stress and anxiety that come with working here far outweigh any financial benefits. In addition gender pay inequity is not addressed. Advice to Management: It’s time to rethink your priorities. Start genuinely caring about your employees, foster a positive work environment, and value the people who contribute to your success. The current culture is unsustainable, and the reputation of the company will continue to suffer if these issues are not addressed.

Pros

Decent Benefits A couple of good coworkers Free beverages when you go into the office

Cons

The CLA Talent Solutions team (HR Consulting and Outsourcing) is a psychologically unsafe and hostile work environment, where you will live in fear of getting fired once the leadership turns on you (and they always do). They are constantly changing the goal post, there is no process/procedure, and expectations constantly change - and then you are reprimanded when you don't meet the expectations you were not aware of. As long as Dave Hickman is the leader of the team, you will eventually be turned on and let go or pushed out. You will not be told this in the interview process, but you are required to log 44.5 hours/week, but will consistently work more then that. They will require you to go into the office even if they claim the role is remote. They will burn you out with no mercy and fire you if you complain. They will also micromanage your hours, ignore your feedback, and not offer any support. There is no "team" on this team; you are on your own - rarely in contact with coworkers/leadership, unless you in trouble. This team has consistently had 100%+ turnover since 2021, due to constant firings and burning people out, but they will tell you it was all "healthy turnover" and they were building the "right team" - laughable. And don't get me started on the lack of advancement opportunities once you get to the Director level - the only opportunity from there is to sell HR services, and trust me, this culture at CLA is not set up to do that. You do not want to sell their overpriced, bait and switch services, eventually your conscience will get to you. You will not be offered opportunities to personally grow and develop, there is no support for advancing your skills. Do yourself a favor and work at another consulting company, or just work as internal HR somewhere else. There is no balance in this role, your family and personal life will suffer, you will need to take a mental health leave just to survive. Oh and CLA as a whole? Unethical. Top heavy. Accounting professionals don't respect HR professionals. HUGE organization with no true space for employee voice. A conglomerate of acquired businesses.
