Mass Firm Layoff

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Benefits, people, useful training courses.

Cons

To those reading this review, please be aware of the firm’s high employee turnover rate! Throughout the year, the top managements kept assuring that they do not plan on laying off their employees because that is who they are. But guess what? They could not keep their promises. Therefore, I am writing this review because I wanted to express my concern and disappointment regarding the recent mass layoff at this firm. The abrupt nature of the workforce reduction has left many employees, including myself, in a state of distress. The timing of the layoff process seemed rushed and no prior notices were given to any of the affected employees. With that said, if you are planning on being committed to this company, you should expect to be let go off at anytime without any warnings even if they promise you they won’t.

Pros

They give you so many opportunities that's true but it all depends on how driven you are and if you have it those experiences are there but they won't compensate you for all that you do.

Cons

From the moment Jen Leary became the CEO, CLA went unbelievably growth driven. We have lost so many great workers because they weren't compensated for the amount of effort and quality they gave. And CLA keeps growing in the market but the quality of new internal people has been absolute disgrace. CLA can't afford to lose anyone so they keep staff members who are not qualified in fact are incompetent in their roles and the hard workers have to make up for those huge failures. Worst of all their DEI initiatives are the death to their offices. Accounting in general is a conservative field and to have all the women in an office dominated by women presence 60 to 40% be uncomfortable of sharing a restroom with a transgender woman who was known to everyone as a man is ludicrous! We spoke to national level people about this uncomfortable situation and the response received was well if you are uncomfortable then go to q different restroom!! Unacceptable to promote " What's safe for some is NOT safe for others" but only apply that phrase to the small minority that will make sure to be seen as victims!

Pros

Some really good people and clients

Cons

Unfortunately most of the talent leaves when they realize how poorly managed the organization is and the lack of pipeline coming up through the ranks. This is one of the most poorly managed organizations I have encountered in my career, either at a professional services firm or through the lens of my many clients over the years. Constant personnel and leadership changes without clarity or notice. Die-hard optimism that overly rosy projections can be met without little understanding of shifting markets, changing professional services landscape, capacity and support. Over reliance on antiquated billing models that have team members miserable, chasing 1,800 billable hours per year….even though the CEO announced the end of charge hours. There is an authoritarian vibe that seems to pervade all offices. There is outright hostility and ruthlessness in carrying out the agenda of C Suite executives, who brag about flying to Europe to see Taylor Swift because the tickets were cheaper, then turning around and authorizing 0% salary increases and no profit sharing to employee retirement accounts, Vindictive brown nosing that feels scarily like a cult. Benefits and pay have been getting worse and worse every year. Leadership cannot seem to get it together, plan is constantly changing, abruptly about face with no explanation. Unrealistic charge hour expectations on top of admin, BD, team oversight, etc. Constantly rotating senior leaders from one role to the next, without bringing in new/fresh perspectives that actually win in the market. Lack of integration across offices, services, industries. Long time clients leaving in mass, especially if previous firm merged into CLA. Leaders want all of the credit, no support for future leaders rising through the ranks.
