      Pros

      Wonderful brand. Lots of opportunity to make a positive difference. Good place for entry level folks to get a start in their career. Certainly not all areas are as bad as some posts on this site make it seem. That's for sure. Many talented folks exist throughout the organization, even though they may not be in the leadership roles needed to make the most impact, they still can have a strong effect. Strong committment to volunteering.

      Cons

      Environment is ridiculously complex for a company this size, so challenges/opportunities are endless. Company tries to do too much at once, sometimes with unrealistic timeframes for proper results. Isn't that most companies though?

      Pros

      Great brand name, generally very nice people at mid-management level and below, dedicated front line staff, heritage of serving and caring for members

      Cons

      Lack of strategic focus, advancement based on nepotism, competence is often seen as a threat to those in executive level jobs lest they be found out, will verbally encourage people to speak up but the harsh reality is that no one at the upper levels wants to hear opinions or facts that differ from what they believe.

      A 100-year old company that is being destroyed by current management

      Pros

      The organization is so chaotic that if you manage to convince management that you're working hard they can leave you alone.

      Cons

      Management is so completely clueless about what direction to take the company that they are heading off in a hundred million directions at once. Once again, senior management believes that by hiring external consultants they can "fix" the company, not realising they are merely repeating the same mistakes made by the previous regime. Management's fetish for cost cutting has resulted in employees being made redundant without first looking to see what knowledge they are losing.
