Pros

-Good work life-balance for anyone not a Manager or above -Offers decent experience in health-plan setting to add to your resume -Work itself is non demanding; decent job if you're just looking to clock in and out -Offers 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off) for some positions

Cons

-Work itself is pretty boring - projects are not exciting or complex -Most employees are hourly, not salaried, and pay is decent but certainly not competitive -Leadership is not the best and brightest by any means - most don't seem to know the most basic principals of management or leadership -Technology and resources are way behind Not a place for career-minded folks

Board of Directors and Executives are the Problem

Pros

My team was like a mini family. Yes, there were ups and down, but at the end of the day, we had each other's backs and worked together to accomplish our department goals.

Cons

CalOptima is overseen by an unsympathetic Board of Directors and run by a spineless executive team. CalOptima fails to realize that employee morale directly impacts member care. Yes, a majority of funds should be directed at member care, but lets not forget the employees who make that happen, whether out in the field or behind-the-scenes at the office. Due to the careless actions of the Board and executive leadership's failure to stand up for their employees, CalOptima will experience another brain drain that led to the severe failures experienced in the early 2010s. If you haven't read up on that, I suggest you do so.
