      Pros

      Great pay, benefits, and some great people to work with.

      Cons

      Micromanagement coming from the top down, they don't value their employees, and make people's work more difficult. I was asked to lie to a discharger, not sure that's appropriate for a state regulator. Communication doesn't exist, management doesn't trust staff to accomplish tasks they were hired to do, too much ego coming from management who doesn't care about water quality.

      State work, Union, Location, 8-hr days

      Cons

      Horrible co-workers, obnoxious and hateful rumor mill, uncaring management, work partnerships with other departments adversarial at best, blame game, cliques

      Just a government job. Nothing so great about it.

      Pros

      Retirement benefits. Alternate work schedule. Stable. Work life balance better than private sectors.

      Cons

      Too many slackers in headquarter or other big field offices in Los Angeles, Fresno, San Diego, and bay area. Hardworking people are rewarded for more work and this becomes a norm. Very few promotional opportunities. Pay is not great compared to other similar type of jobs in the public sectors. Some field offices have too much work while some offices have too less to do. Turnover rate is high in headquarters and at senior level. Union protects slackers.
