Do your research and ask your friends - Good place to 'Retire in Place', as long as you can deal with a Culture of Fear
Pros
Most all coworkers are great to work with - although there is a significant portion that have 'retired in place'. Have an annual 'incentive' program if the company meets its goals. If you are just starting your career or looking for a place to put in your time before you retire (meaning that you are willing to put up with being considered an interchangeable "resource' instead of a person), this place is for you.
Cons
Annual layoffs around the holidays each year are so much of the culture that they are called the annual 'Christmas Presents'. Line staff openly uses the words 'Toxic', 'Culture of Fear', and 'Passive-Aggressive management' in day-to-day conversations. Some directors are openly put down in public by other directors. Appearances are more important that delivery. Should a health care payer be run by a doctor or a lawyer? CEO is the latter and more interested in his political career. Dollars drive decisions. Have been doing a lot a 'come work for us' social media in the past year to backfill all the good people now that the economy has improved. Training program is in name only - career development is a once a year conversation with your manager as a checkoff item at your annual review. Training is available, as long as it does not cost anything and it is on your own time. Do your research, ask your friends, and carefully consider if the cool-aid is a flavor you can deal with. Just go in with your eyes open.
