Creativity is sacrificed for conformity and strict adherence to rigid processes and procedures is demanded of people who do not thrive when forced to color within the lines. There is far too much time wasted on setting personal goals and endless performance reviews with no chance for advancement or monetary incentives. Creative management is passive aggressive, invariably acquiesces to arbitrary marketing changes (even when creative briefs are followed to the letter) and will not defend your work. The result is watered down “vanilla” creative by committee that has no originality or impact. Even after your work is approved by directors and vice presidents of creative and marketing, you are still held accountable for any failure to meet (usually unspecified) goals.
The department is understaffed, deadlines are unrealistic and workloads are overwhelming. In addition, employees are expected to put in their own time working at company events.
