Pros

It can’t get any worse!?

Cons

An organisation in serious disarray. There are too many directors and vice presidents of… and no women in senior roles to speak of.

Interesting comments. Two of the current EMEA management (SVP) layer are women, the diversity mix actually increases to as much as 56% in other parts of the business. It's not clear if you're suggesting there's a causal link between diversity and "disarray" but as an employee of 10+ years, it's completely understandable to feel that organisational change is uncomfortable - as well as unavoidable.

No career progression

Pros

Good brand Some good people Good range of products

Cons

Currently cutting headcount and costs under the guise of becoming more customer centric although management have been working on making the changes for some time the results are not forthcoming at all. There is no good way to progress your career in the company unless you are already working with the chosen few people in power. No true development initiatives or paths for employees and very poor learning opportunities. Morale is very low and many people leave already. AVOID THIS CAREER GRAVEYARD!

Change to meet the needs of customers is inevitable for Canon as it is for any other business and we want to attract, retain and reward people as part of that journey. We accept that efforts to be open about those changes won't always be possible or received by everyone in the same way so it is iterative. Career progression on the other hand is a very personal subject and it's not always linear (e.g. promotion). We have people who have successfully up-skilled or reinvented themselves and created 30+ year careers at Canon by doing so. People demonstrably have both the power and the tools (e.g. Canon's Development Hub) to grow their careers if they wish to but we'll certainly take opportunities like this to look at how we can improve the messages.
