Adequate compensation. Decent work / life balance.

Cons

Managements favorite motto, "people are our greatest resource" is comical in light of recent lay-offs due to consolidation and cut backs. Management likes to portray the organization as people oriented, but recent history proves people no longer matter. And their explanations for the corporate direction is couched in half truths and fibs. Once a great company to work for, the slide has been obvious and steady. The bean counters have taken over and the company is not recognizable from its halcyon days. I wouldn't necessarily say you shouldn't work here, but be wary of long term commitments and keep an eye looking over your shoulder; no one is safe except for the rule makers.

You are a gofer to the Expats. A Company that functions like a class system. Opinions and suggestions not wanted, all decisions come from Canon JPN HQ. Constant restructuring and movement of American staff. Following other market leaders is the plan. No communication from VPs and above, you are expected to treat them as if they were gods.

Strong reputation A lot of established processes and highly structured environment Comfortable working environment especially at the headquarters - featuring a cafeteria with many options, walking trails, and a fitness center

Cons

Business is not doing well - there have been layoffs recently No flexibility Salary increases are not very high from year to year Promotions do not happen often here so many younger people stay for a couple of years and then leave for growth opportunities
