Cons
I am writing this review mainly because I do not want anyone else to have the same experience that I did. I honestly feel as if I was oversold this position. I was made to believe that I would be using my love for fashion everyday to style customers head-to-toe in Michael Kors. I was also excited to take on the challenges that come with a “managerial” role and ready to make a difference. Because this position involves working within a department store to promote Michael Kors, most of my time was spent answering questions about the price of the product or which Macy's coupon could be used. I found this to be very discouraging and uninspiring, considering we were constantly reinforced by corporate that we should ONLY be focusing on selling full price items. Additionally, because the department store was always understaffed, customers were consistently upset with me because I was unable to ring up their purchase or help them in other areas of the store. Anytime I brought this up during a meeting, I was always told to inform the retail partners about the issue and gain their support to add more staffing, but let's just say, I was NEVER at the top of their priority list for anything. Another problem with this position is that we were required by corporate to send daily, weekly and monthly recaps, as well as complete meeting agendas, action plans, email blasts and Jet-Set assignments. Furthermore, we were only given 8:30am-10:30am on a Tuesday each week to complete all of these assignments. I'm sorry, but I do not even think the CEO could finish all of these assignments in two hours. And, they would say these recaps and assignments were meant to benefit us and help us get the tools we needed from corporate, like help with low inventory. Well, during the busiest months of the year, I was left with extremely low inventory and highlighted this in every recap, as well as reached out numerous times on the side and still never received product. Because of this, we missed our sales goals. A major point I want to make is, we were given a cash bonus if we exceeded our monthly sales goals. During the three months that I did actually have stock to sell, I exceeded the monthly sales plan, but corporate some how “accidentally” forgot to put the bonus on my check. I had to email corporate myself, and inform them of their mistake each time. Wow, they really value their employees, don’t they???? What finally sealed the deal was during a conference call; we were informed that our position as Shop Manager, which was supposed to be this "elevated and prestigious position" would be going from salary to hourly. I am sorry, but I did not spend my time and money at a prestigious university to get paid hourly (the salary pay was already bad enough). This definitely proved that I was indeed a glamorized sales associate.
