Pros

You will learn a lot and wear many hats.

Cons

Senior management makes terrible decisions. They have inflated salaries and spend their days pretending to care about patient and staff issues. There is no transparency. Senior management places staff in positions where they have little to no experience, usually friends of theirs to protect them from being laid off. You can work 15 hours/day, come in on the weekends, and help every department in the organization, and yet, you'll still never get promoted or a pay increase. You will also get in trouble for the most absurd reasons (i.e., talking to a colleague about work related items and from a distance, a higher up assumes you're wasting time/gossiping). Stay far away from this place -- you will absolutely regret working here.

Pros

Working with the elderly is a humbling experience. You can learn alot. Union position okay.

Cons

High turn over. Lay offs for the last 3-4 years. No job security especially within management. No transparency from upper management. Corporate does not listen to the staff on the front line...the ones actually providing care. Constant restructuring. Never know who to speak to because staff positions change so much. Job duties has no real structure. Long wait for raise increase for management on the front line.

No transparency

Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Dedicated, caring co-workers. Supportive boss.

Cons

Poor leadership from the top. Unclear directives. For example, new initiatives are often implemented in a haphazard way. Details such as who is owning the initiative, potential problems, etc. do not appear to have been planned out. Complete lack of transparency. No communication from upper management about the direction of the organization. Low morale, layoffs of essential staff.
