Pros

Very diverse and dedicated team. Fantastic mission and approach to service integration. Employees are individuals impacted by mission. The only NGO in Portland positively helping complicated homelessness.

Cons

Underfunded so teams sometimes are stretched thin. Mission and work are very demanding at times. Difficult to navigate ongoing stressors and challenging complexities are homelessness, addiction and mental illness

Pros

Vacation package and health benefits

Cons

I worked at CCC for 6 months at Blackburn. There was a murder right next to the building. I worked with a client who witnessed the murder. I began reporting various symptoms to my manager: gastrointestinal distress, not being able to eat my breakfast, troubling images of a girl being molested, a panic attack, feeling as if CCC was a large, impersonal monster, and feeling as if I was collecting the stories of clients. These symptoms--now in hindsight--were clearly the result of exposure to trauma. My manager was incompetent. She should have been able to recognize these secondary trauma symptoms. She did not. Now, I am dealing with full-blown PTSD due to working for CCC. The day I quit, I found out that CCC gave to wrong phone number to me. My phone was only connected within CCC, not to the outside world. Clients were having a hard time getting ahold of me. Some clients were even threatening to fire me due to the phone issues. Half of my clients wanted to kill themselves. They needed the ability to easily get in touch with me.
