The good and the bad

Pros

I saw the other CSL reviews here and felt compelled to add my own opinion to the mix; I've never written a Glassdoor review before. There are many good things you can say about CentralReach - the company is driven by a solid mission (the reason many, many of us are here), it's a very collaborative environment, and the pay and benefits are decent. I've been here for a few years and have seen a lot of change in that time, some of it good and some of it bad. The company has grown quite a bit over the last few years, and has made a number of acquisitions, which can be exiting to be a part of. Also, the team is very diverse, which is refreshing to see. The good here makes CR deserve the 3-stars I'm giving it.

Cons

CSL-land has seen a lot of changes over the last few years, especially with multiple reporting structure changes. I felt like last year, we were finally moving in the right direction, focusing on doing actual Customer Success rather than glorified technical support. Adding Gainsight, Success Plans, QBRs and other basic Customer Success functions was a huge step forward. This year has been regressive. Also, it feels like the new leadership doesn't care about us, and is generally disinterested in our opinions on how things could be better. I think the team is afraid to speak up with new ideas as well. Right now I'd say we're all pretty much just keeping our heads down and working. If it weren't for the uncertain economy, I'd probably leave and find another job; I am actively looking but the uncertainty makes me reluctant to leave CR at this time.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your positive feedback on the mission, cross functional collaboration, benefits and pay, our growth story and our emphasis on diversity. We have made significant investments in the Customer Success organization to improve customer satisfaction and to level up our overall team. If you are unhappy or have concerns over these changes, I encourage you to seek out our COO to further discuss.

Pros

I’ve been at CentralReach since day 1, and with the founders for about a year with their antecedent company. I have nothing but good things to say about the company and her founders, though the pace and nature of the work is definitely not for everyone. I’m a software developer, so some of my more specific comments may not apply to other positions. To succeed at CentralReach you need to be a self starter, a fast learner, and a hard worker; any proper subset of those traits will not suffice. New developers are expected to get into the code, quickly learn how things work, and start contributing. In all seriousness, if you’re a “9-5 developer” who’s used to a cushy corporate work tempo, please don’t apply. Seriously. I've seen too many decent people come, and shortly thereafter go. From a technical standpoint, the app is a years-old SPA that antedates all-encompassing frameworks like Angular and Ember. We long ago integrated Knockout and requireJS, but you will definitely need a very, very solid JavaScript skillset. As I said, the pace is extremely fast. Don’t expect to idle away hours at a whiteboard contemplating whether an object violates SRP, and analyzing alternatives. Don’t get me wrong, we have a very high quality, well structured code base that I’m extremely proud of, but the work pace simply doesn't accommodate these borderline anal-retentive analyses that I oh so fondly remember from some of my past jobs. In sum, the work is incredibly interesting and rewarding, and the people friendly, smart and reasonable. A lot is expected of you, but if you’re the type of person that sees that as a positive, then the company may be a great fit for you.

Cons

I have to type at least 20 words, so I'll reiterate that a lot is expected of you. If you see that as a con, then this job probably isn't for you.

Cons

This is a company of People pleasers, if you share a different perspective you will be crushed. Engineering leader has no respect for Product Leader counterpart and they are not able to come to a common ground in any meeting. One hour meeting will stretch to two hours every time because of the disconnect. Engineering head always over shadows with his loud voice.

Hi There. In addition to their time at CentralReach, our CPO and CTO worked together at a prior company. Their 10 year business relationship often results in a healthy debate to ensure that the best technical decisions are being made for the customers and the company. That said, if this makes you uncomfortable, please feel free to raise it to your manager or HR as we want to ensure that your concerns are addressed and that meetings are productive for all that are in attendance.
