Pros

The JPMorgan name is a great on your resume. The strength of the company in addition to its resources gives you great leverage when pulling in new clients. Products offered are usually quite good. Technology is top notch. Pay and benefits are usually on par with the industry.

Cons

Over the past 5 years the Personal Banker role has been devalued significantly. Everything now revolves around a script that you are given so you can implement what is known as the 1-2-3 sales drill. It is expected to be used at all times even when it doesn't seem appropriate and even if you are sitting with a client that you've met before several times. You still have to go over it and if you deviate from that script in attempt to show your individuality, you are doing something wrong. To ensure that everyone uses the prescribed scripts you will find micromanagement to be quite rampant. Consequently, independent thinking is often discouraged. Most branches have more employees than desks. It is actually pretty common and it is also the new trend. Most managers require you to have a client at your desk at all times otherwise you are required to stand up and greet clients as they walk in so that you can bring them to your desk and sell them something. This is what your entire day will consist of leaving you very little time to catch up on your leads, clients or to explore your book of business. You have to wear uniforms known as Chase Apparel. Always blue shirts and Chase logo ties for men. This basically underscores the banality of the title. This role will not get you any closer to the JP Morgan side, in case you are interested in becoming an investment banker this is not the way to go. It is completely separate.

Pros

Health care options and benefits for employees.

Cons

No career development offered within the banking centers. Lack of products and services to remain competitive in a rural community setting. Management focusing on acquiring checking accounts with all of the conveniences (i.e., direct deposit, reward debit cards, online banking and bill pay) as the driving force for a profitable banking center.
